ActiveSync deleted my contacts! I think it tried to "sync" the contact list in my pc to my HTC Touch Cruise. But the problem is i had no contact list in my PC.. So ActiveSync synced them by erasing the list on the phone!

    Three questions;

    - Isn't it so stupid!?
    - How can i recover my contacts?
    - Should i sue Microsoft in case of losing my personal contacts!

Strange. Was it the first time you synchronized your device? See if you see your contacts in the Deletd Items folder in outlook.

Recover - just post again here on this thread if you were not able to see your contacts in the deleted items folder in Outlook as Linley suggests.

This is one of the most frustrating things I have ever experienced in my life.

All my 600+ contacts are gone...

All, all, all I wanted to do was to copy a couple of files from office PC to HTC Touch with windows mobile 6.0 but nooo, microsoft active sync has to work!

microsoft office and/or outlook is not even installed on PC, so sync contacts/calendar etc. are already grayed out...
    no contacts to sync?
    no calendar?
what to do, what to do...

delete everything on mobile device! yes thats almost "microsoft" way of solving problems!
    almost...
what to do to make it a perfect microsoft solution?

lets delete all contacts calendar info and do not even give a single warning! instead lets say "sync - success!!"

I digged around in internet for a while and it looks like there are quite a lot of people experienced same thing... I dont really want to sue microsoft, probably your terms and conditions will cover anything, (considiring to bomb some buildings tho, since you will never ever understand the importance of all those contacts and important dates for me) but again, you are really a sorry excuse for a software company, I dont even have a clue how you ever managed to build this monopoly...

because an iPhone Stupid for anyone who wants more than to be entertained.
    1. $30 a month for the data on top of the plan you have for each line. Plus Xtra for Texting $5-20, Navigator $10 plus Data, TV $15 plus Data, etc
    2. AT&T, Sprint (HTC touch - charges you the same for Data BUT EVERYTHING else is included.
    3. It doesn't stay connected to 3G, most the time you switch to Edge.
    4. MOST IMPORTANT: YOU NEVER OWN THE IPHONE. You only lease it. It's TRUE with any iPOD/iPhone/Most Apple Products. At anytime Apple could put out an "UPDATE" and when you plug it into your PC/Apple Computer and sync it with iTunes it will BRICK your phone. They have the power to do so and I don't trust a company that can and might do so.
    5. Everytime you want to use iTUNES you have to install UPDATES for your computer. I have NOT used iTUNES for 3 months and i have 15 UPDATES before i can listen to my CD almost an hr later.
    6. iTUNES converts all your music to a format that can not be shared. It also takes over your library and reports you for any music you do not own.
    7. You have to use iTUNES.

This exact same thing just happened to me.
Tried to sync my HTC touch to an empty Outlook on my PC, and all the contacts and calendar dates in my PDA are now gone!

there is nothing in the Deleted Items folder in Outlook

I can't find a deleted items folder on my PDA..

Is there any way to recover these contacts & calendar items?

I know a number of people who have done this, I had to restore from a previous backup that was taken. ActiveSync is such a poor product in comparison to sync software for many other products.

what may have happened is what i believe happened to me with my HTC touch.  I will never know for sure because Microsoft has the WORST tech support EVER but here is my theory.
Somewhere in the settings for Windows mobile device center is a drop down option that says something like replace items on phone and replace items on computer. I think that if you have replace items on phone selected, it will delete any contacts on your phone that are not already stored on your computer.  Like I said just a theory.  I would have looked up exactly what it says for you but, my phone has crashed perhaps due to downloading bing (any common themes here?) and is now non-functional.
Personally, I am pretty sure Windows Mobile was the least thought out product ever made, I have had endless problems which have cost me personally and professionally, so I understand and share your frustration.
