Syncing phone with Outlook
Syncing phone with Outlook
- Does anyone know of any cell phones that don't require data service to sync with Microsoft Outlook?? I would like to be able to sync my contacts and calendar but don't need the internet data services. Most of the providers are forcing data plans on all of the smart phones now.

- All the Windows Mobile devices can sync to Outlook without a data connection. Just set up your sync and enjoy!

- I just got the LG enV Touch and it syncs with Outlook with a software download from LG. It is not a Windows Mobile device nor a smart phone. It works like a charm!
- There are two drawbacks to the LG enV Touch sync. First, the number of contacts and calendar entries that can be synced is limited. I don't remember the number of max contacts. Second, the fields sync'd are limited to just a few. I don't remember the mapping but this needs to be looked at.
My suggestion to get a full outlook sync is to find a used smartphone with the capabilities you are looking for (e.g., WM 6.1 operating system) and then activate it on your existing plan. I think you are correct that the wireless providers have figured out that they need to make the data plans mandatory with the smartphones. I think Jack Cook's answer to your question is not actually very on point - he'd be correct a couple of years ago when you could still buy a smartphone with a 2-year contract and get the discount, but not sign up for the data plan. That doesn't seem to be the case now.
