Proposed AnswerBluetooth in TyTN / WM6

  • Saturday, August 18, 2007 7:33 PMStormEmborg Users MedalsUsers MedalsUsers MedalsUsers MedalsUsers Medals

After upgrading my TyTN to WM6 my Bluetooth car kit only functions partly - voicedial uses phone microphone and speaker, when dialing the sound often seems to get lost - it is neither on phone or in car kit.

    Can anyone help me please?

You can delete the existing partnership, reset the device then reestablish a partnership

    with the car kit.

If it still is the same, I would contact the car kit manufacturer and see if they have a fix.

That didn't help - the carkit (factory mounted Citroën solution) connects to the phone OK,  but no sound comes out - neither in the car kit or on the phone. Sometimes the sound works OK though.

The TyTN worked fine prior to upgrading to WM6 and it works with other phones, so I expect the problem is caused by WM6.

The car was bought January / February 2007 (the new C4 Grand Picasso model) - I have no technical information on the kit itself

    Hello,
I have the same car and I've bought the new HP IPAQ 514 smartphone and I'm in trouble!
The car and phone connect and I can even browse the directory of the phone in the car.
But when I try to receive or make phone calls there is no sound.
HP doesn't seems to be able to help. I'm trying to get the name of the manufacturer of the Bluetooth car kit to see if there is some software driver to solve this problem.
    Any help would be appreciated.

I tried contacting Citroën Denmark with no luck..... if anyone suceeds in finding more info PLEASE let me know. I would hate to downgrade my TyTN to WM5 because of this!

There's a thread over on XDA-Developers with the same issue. Looks like there's definitely a problem with the Bluetooth stack in WM6 and a lot of car kits. They need to get this sorted soon!

Since we are in a Microsoft forum it would be nice to hear something about this from them.

Please could someone from Microsoft comment these problems - they are described many places on the Internet and it seems to be a serious problem for a lot of users...but it seems like Microsoft has dissappeared.

Can I expect a fix to WM6 soon or will I have to downgrade to WM5 in order to use my device?

I can appreciate your issue and feel the pain ... I've experienced it.  I would tell you that the upgrade has the latest and greatest for BT functionality.  The issue is the car kit and its compatibility with the new technlogy.

I would still suggest contacting the car company and see if there is a way to upgrade their device.

Upgrade? As in WM5 to WM6, or are you refering to a patch to WM6? If you are talking about WM5 to WM6, then what would you see as being the issue here? WM6 not having compatibility with the car kits, or the car kist not being fully Bluetooth compatible? I don't understand why my Nokia can work without problems, but there always seems to be an issue with Bluetooth on WM!

Same car (citroën C4 Picasso) and same problem after update my htc TyTN to WM6

Sadly i had to reinstall WM5 that always works perfectly with the bt car kit

The WM6 upgrade does not work with thecitroën bt

With that facts i can´t believe that the problem is the car kit... if WM5 works but WM6 doesn't the problem is the WM6 bluetooth stack.

I'll give you an example.  I use a Canon scanner ... it has been a terrific accessory that I have used for a long time.  So I decide to upgrade to Vista ... the scanner no longer works.  The drivers are not supported.

Is it the fault of Vista?  Or should Canon make the right drivers to keep it compatible?

I think I lose ... life is tough sometimes.  So, now I have a new item for my Christmas list I guess.

    just my thoughts....

Help_Line, I understand your point. However in this case I can't go out and buy a new phone because ALL WM6 phones (from what I can tell on this forum and others) have this issue with a number of factory fitted Bluetooth car kits, including all Citroen. The car kits are all "Bluetooth compatible", which as Bluetooth is a common standard means that they should work with all devices displaying the Bluetooth symbol, and do apart from WM6 devices.

So maybe I should get a new car? My car is less than a year old, and I really can't justify getting a new car just because MS have broken the Bluetooth stack on WM6. Maybe I should get a new bluetooth hands free kit? I can't, it's factory fitted!

If my car, or Bluetooth, or phone were 10 years old I could understand this. Or if my car stated it was a WM5 compatible kit then I could understand this. However Bluetooth should work with any device, no matter what O/S or brand, so as far as I can tell MS either need to fix this, or tell us what in WM6 is causing this problem to show that they haven't just broken the BT stack in their new O/S.

Just to provide some hope of a solution it does all work.  I have a TyTn II and a Citreon C5 2006 with factory fitted Bluetooth, this all works fine I can make and receive calls with no problems.

The only difference I have found and this is down to the phone is that sometimes when getting into the car and the devices connect the car thinks the phone is in a call and silences the radio the only reslution is to hangup the non existne t call from the car controls,

    Hi ngow,

That's good news, however it might just be that the C5 is fitted with a different Bluetooth kit to the C4. Have you ever had the problem we've described with a WM5 phone? A TYTN flashed to WM5 for example? And have you seen any changes to the car kit, upgrades from the dealer, etc?

The bluetooth is as delivered in the C5 July 06, I had a Imate Jamin with WM5 previously and this worked fine.

OK, I guess the next question is if anyone has had the problem with the C5 car kit? If they have, then we know that the bluetooth in the TYTN has been fixed. If not, then I guess we'll all need to go out any exchange our cars for C5s! ;-)

I just got HTC TyTN II (ATT Tilt here in the US) with WM6 - this is just yesterday.  I have a Toyota Prius - a hybrid car with a BT car kit.  IT doesn't WORK!!  It can't even connect to the car kit?

My previous phones, 2 with WM5 all worked great, also other phone like Moto KAZR, RAZR all worked fine.

Is it WM6 or ??  Any help or fixes

I suggest contacting your dealer, they may know of the problem. I spoke to my Citroën dealer last week who said it was a "known issue with 'high end' phones like Nokias running symbian". I guess WM6 is too new still for a lot of the manufactorers to have noticed, but hopefully the more people who complain, the sooner updates will be released.

I am experiencing the same problem on my Samsung SCH-i760 WM6 phone and my Pioneer (aftermarket installed) BTB200 bluetooth adapter.

I definitely think that the problem lies in the bluetooth programming of WM6.  Out of the box, the Pioneer BT adapter can't see my phone, but the phone can see the adapter.  Some of you say "it sounds like Pioneer's fault" at this point... but let me finish...

The only way I could get the car kit to recognize the phone is if I edited the HKLM/Software/Microsoft/Bluetooth/sys/COD key in the registry.  COD stands for "class of device" and it tells the outside world what kind of device it is.  I think that the WM6 programming has the class of device code set in such a way that my car kit is ignoring my phone, thinking that the phone is incompatible.  When I changed this key (search for the value elsewhere... I don't want to be responsible for bricking your device), the car kit could FINALLY see the device, but couldn't connect to it.  I'd get a PIN error on the phone, no matter how many times I'm sure I entered "0000"  Apparently, the value that was recommended to me (which worked on a different phone) was not the right one to use for my phone.

I hope someone can shed some light on this topic.  I've never posted here before.. and I may not check back, so hopefully if a solution to my problem pops up as a result of this post... it will somehow make it back to me.

Good luck with all of your cool foreign cars!  (I'm from the USA... never seen a Citroen in person.  Only on Gran Turismo)

I too have the i760 and my pioneer BT (DEH-9800BT) does not see the phone as default, the only way i can get it to connect is to go in to the phone, bluetooth settings, select the device and select to use headset... all my other phones, all i've had to do is hit connect on the stereo, it would find it and off you go.

    I'm also in the US.

I too have the TyTN II.  I had difficulty connecting to my Pioneer AVIC D3 Bluetooth connection for handsfree. I downloaded a patch at jetwaremobile.com.  Everything worked perfect after that.  Give it a try.

Steen...I have the exact same setup.  HTC TYTN II with the AVIC D3.  Mine did not connect either. Same as you, I got an "invalid device" message on the D3.   The guy who installed he GPS system suggested I go to "Jetwaremobile, com and download the patch directly to my phone. I did that and everything works perfect. It takes about 4 seconds to download to the phone. About 10 seconds to install...and it works great.  Automatic connect now everytime I get in the car (bluetooth on of course).   Give it a try, I hope it works for you.

    Anyone got some suggestions ??

RE: "Jetwaremobile.com"...There is a version for Windows mobile 5 and 6 so I am hoping you tried that one.  You must remove one of the versions before you try another. Also, there are settings you can try (checkboxes) that make the bluetooth program function differently and do what you want it to do.  Some phones do not have all of the features listed.

All I can say is that I could not connect to my Pioneer AVIC D3 for anything, and once I installed this program, connection was made in about 3 seconds...everytime, no problem.  I am sorry to hear it did not work for you. I was hoping this would solve everyone's problem.  It worked for my HTC TYTN II (Windows mobile 6)   Maybe try the different settings on the program (checkboxes).  I've got to think that WM6 on the Glofish is the same as WM6 on the HTC, with the exception of the bluetooth settings and features.

I do not see your point that MS "broke the bluetooth stack".  I would agree that the car manufacturor might have used an older version for pre-WM6 devices.

I also have this problem. Used to have MDA Vario II running WM5. Got a new citroen C4 Grand Picasso with the built in bluetooth function for the phone - worked very well with the Vario II. Recently upgraded the phone to a Vario III running WM6 and now suffer the lose of audio described on here and various other websites.

Have contacted T-Mobile who told me to contact HTC who insisted on quotting who they state their phone is compatible with (Parrot was one of them). So not very helpful. Now waiting to hear back from Citroen but can't imagine anything coming from them.

I have the same car as most people in this thread - Citroen Grand C4 Picasso. However, I have a different phone - it's Glofiish X500. It's also uses Windows Mobile though. Unlike people here, I have no sound problems with my phone in my car when using Windows Mobile 6. So Help_Line is apparently wrong saying it's a car manufacturer's problem. Being a system programmer myself I can say that when a new version of software stops working with a common hardware, it's a problem of software. Unfortunately, MS doesn't seem to think so, they think they are always right and don't even want to investigate the issue (I mean give it to real "hands-on" engineers, not to the "answering machine" guys). Sad

Despite the fact that I have no audio problems, I have another problem with WM6 in my phone. My car's hadsfree can't see the phone directory and the calls log that were perfectly accessible with WM5.

Most probably all the problems with MS BT stack may be resolved by simply tuning the registry values that define capabilities and features. Unfortunately, I don't posess the information on how and what exactly to change. Doesn anyone here have a clue?

I have an HTC 8525 and it has the same problem with my Peugeot 307 car kit. I guess the problem is more related to the audio level threshold since some times I can hear and talk, sometimes I don't hear but the audio channel starts since you hear the audio noise in the car (is clear if you raise the voulme at max), I found too that sometimes the car like realizes too late that there's a call in progress. I loaded into my phone some applications to deeply configure it and found for example the Advanced Configuration where you have some parameters to play with, but no luck, so now I'll investigate if there s any registry value I can modify to make it stable. So bottom line: should be a stupid value somewhere that makes

this work like that. Even some parameters that should be reported (battery level for example) are sometimes not reported by the car kit, then may be too there's a packet size difference between them so if the info goes into a packet "understandable" then the car reacts.

I guess Microsoft or HTC or both would realize that there's a problem here, all of us we can not be so unlucky to buy the wrong car....

    Thank you all

I have previously posted on here saying I too was suffering from the loss of audio through my car's bluetooth system (a c4 grand picasso) with the TyTn II. However for now I appear to have a working solution. I have tried many different things, and I don't know whether it was a combination of all of them which did it or just the final thing - so here's what I have done.

    1. Flashed the latest WM6.1 HTC rom onto my device. - the car bluetooth function still wasn't working properly at this point.

    2. Installed jetwaremobile's utility (and played around with the settings) - again the car bluetooth function not working properly at this point.

    3. Installed Microsoft Voice Command (version 1.6.19209) - this seemed to be the key and the bluetooth function started working properly with the car.

So it may be that it was just Microsoft Voice command on it's own which had made it work, or a combination of all 3 things I have tried. But I don't want to hard reset the phone and try again in case I can't get it to work again).

i have the exact same bluetooth handsfree kit but with the Samsung i617 blackjack 2. My phone and the adapter find eachother without any issues, its the connecting part where it doesnt work. I get a connection error, then invalid device pops up on my head unit. Microsoft better start figuring this issue out soon with the new law in effect, or they could have some major problems on their hands. Im running their newest WM6.1 which was supposed to fiz the bluetooth issues, and it did'nt do squat. Any imput would be helpful.

Just a quick note to add fuel to the fire!!

I am using a Symbol MC35 which came with WM5. Connected no problems with Parrott 3200LS. Everything worked.

Updated device to WM6, and now I have to switch the MC35 on (ie out of standby) before I can make calls. As the only thing that has changed is Windows, it doesn't take a genius to realise this is a Microsoft problem.

    Dear all,

There's many different issues with WM6.1, which seem to be solved in WM6.0 or WM5.0. See also the following Microsoft thread:

    http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/windowsmobilehelp/thread/57d13f5d-3c4b-433f-bedb-509203ad9ad2/

Within this thread there's many other manufacturers than HTC having the same issue. Please also refer to this thread at XDA:

    http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=438457

I really wonder why Windows Mobile bluetooth compatibility is so funky, and Nokia or Sony Ericsson phones (or even IPhones) have no issues with any carkits or headsets...

    Regards,

    Nika.

Hi all, I see my answer was flagged as the proposed answer. Officially I think downgrading to an ancient version of Windows Mobile is not the solution, but only a "temporary workaround". I wonder how we can get Microsoft to make their products more and better compatible? Is this forum read by Microsoft engineers too, and if not - where do we post our comments so they can fix the BlueTooth stack? Regards, Nika.

Thanks for the feedback Nika. Yes, Microsoft engineers read these forum threads too and have read your feedback.

The passion on these issues is good to see, the frustration - not so much.  Rest assure, as Mary Alice says, MS engineers do read these posts.  Also note, that MVPs that respond here, are only attempting to provide assistance.

I can tell you that a Bluetooth enabled Windows Mobile devices should work with any of the Bluetooth Special Interests Group (SIG) certified devices & accessories.  To see a list of Bluetooth SIG certified devices please click here.

    Hi 2GrokMobile,

I totally agree, and never really doubted that people are trying to help. I was just wondering what the way would be to get support.

My machine (JVC KW-NX7000 with JVC KS-BTA200 BlueTooth module) is listed in the compatibility list:
    http://www.bluetooth.com/Bluetooth/Products/Products/Product_Details.htm?ProductID=3205

I have tried everything to get it going, and using WM6.0 works best, even though that has bugs too (got to wait 30 seconds or more till placing the next call, otherwise it will end up at the handset instead of the carkit).

What would be my best option to get a solution? Buy another phone? Buy another carkit? Or could I get support somewhere?

    Regards,

    Nika.

Well, I have tried and tried and tried to figure out solutions by reading this thread and others. I had an HTC Touch from Sprint. It would not work on my bluetooth for my Pathfinder. I had other problems with my phone- it froze probably 1-2 times a day. My battery would not last longer than 3-4 hrs even when I did not use the phone and when I tried to keep programs running in the background. Before the touch, I had a mogul- had to replace 3 times. I had to replace the Touch twice- Finally, I said enough. I switched to the iphone- It does everything that my windows mobile phone did for me- exchange server integration, contacts, schedule, e-mail, etc. No battery issues, no bluetooth issues and it has not froze even once yet. I hope for those of you who keep windows mobile that they will fix this issue for you- I write this only because I understand from reading these posts that Microsoft engineers read these. To them, just make something that works- maybe it was the phone not the OS, but I should not have to re-set my phone 1-2 sometimes more times a day. The iphone is easier to learn and operate- it just works and seems to work just as well with my exchange server so to Nika- life is too short to constantly deal with products that do not work they way they are suppose to- after 3 HTC Moguls and 2 HTC Touches- I decided to switch. I am sure the iphone has issues also- I have not noticed them yet so I will just have to wait and see.

    Good luck to All!

    Jay

Thanks for your feedback Jay and we sincerely appreciate your sharing your experiences. I'm glad your new device is working well with Exchange.

I was just reading through tips for extending the battery life of my Windows Mobile 6.1 device (and that is just fine tuning what is already 6 to 7x what you were getting and I'm using my device all day long, every day, with multiple applications). I wonder how old the battery was on your Sprint HTC Touch?  It sounds a bit like my old Canon digital camera battery that got recharged one to many times when only 1/4 used, and this seemed to run the battery down to the point of the unacceptable battery life issues like the ones you describe. I too have never had a freezing issue with my Windows Mobile phone, even though I run email, contacts, scheduling, etc. Having said all that, even when we don't personally have the same issues as each customer, we very much empathize and are working for ways to replicate, support and improve your experience. Thanks again and all the best.

We have seen posts on this forum that tend to indicate problems with Citroens.  I suspect that you are running into these same issues.  You can check to see if there are updates to the phone, but in the previous posts that, unfortunately, hasn't been the resolution.

Did you find a solution to the Prius sch-i760 problem? I am also having similar problem. My friend has a samsung omnia that never fails to mate up and works like a charm. However, my samsung connects, then disconnects. Sometimes I have to power cycle the car to get the phone to work, usually there is a spontaneous disconnection after 1 call.

The thing is any other mobile (nokia, Sony Ericsson, Samsung, Motorola and iPhone are the ones I tried) all work flawlessly with my Citroen Hands Free BT device! So, the only conclusion I can reach is Microsoft hasn't done the best job with their BT stack implementation in Win Mobile 6.x.
