START/SETTINGS/Connections Tab/ and click on the Connections icon then the Advanced Tab. Now press the Select Networks Button and the top drop down is for programs that connect to the Internet.
Click on the drop down and use MY WORK NETWORK when using WiFi
Don't forgret to change it back if you are going to use your data connection.
- If you are connected by wifi to your home network it will use your data on your home network, not the data on your cell phone service. If you are not connected to a wifi net work all the data (e-mail, browsing) will use the cell phone data plan. There are some great GPRS monitors out there where you can check your usage regularlyhttp://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/products/gprsmonitor/?en for pocketpc(touchscreen)

No that monitor is not free.
Please check the following site for possible free apps. http://www.pocketpcfreewares.com/en/index.php
Hotmail will only work good as push e-mail using windows live application. It is probably on your device and follow the set-up steps. If Not follow the following link
Any other e-mail can be set up through the messaging application (exchange server, IMAP and POP3 accounts)
Have funIf you want to change the connection from your data to WiFi then change the setting under Connections from ISPP to WORK
Do you know how to do that?
- omniag, I use WORK for all when I am using WiFi

I have just got the phone and can connect to my wireless network at home, my question is will I be using my monthly quota connected to that? Orange give me 250mb per month but it hasnt started yet so was worried that I would be using it if connected to my home wireless network?

edit: I think i have done it but just want to make sure what you guys say as you know your stuff. also whats the best way to get my interent to run smoother and faster? as I am clicking on Main Menu > then Internet is that correct or should I click on opera, when I click on opera it seems the same as when I click on the internet but it doesnt seem as smooth or easy to navigat es I thought

- hihi,
Thanks for your help. As i have the same problem with the connection to IE while wi fi is being connected. I have followed the same rules that you have explained, however, it still doesn't work. Would you please explain more detail to see how it can be improved? " Mine home wireless connection is connected to my i908 already. "
Thanks,
Kitty Kitty give us a little more info. What have you done? What are your settings? The more you give, the easier it might be to help out.
- Hi Jack,
Thanks for your prompt reply.
I have connected with my home WIFI network and followed your instruction for setting of the "connections" then click "advanced" and select networks mode, then the top have been selected "my internet" and the down selected "my work network"
After that i tried the IE and it still doesn't work, provided the wifi is connected.
Please help with thanks.
B.rgds,
Kitty Kitty, on the advanced tab where it says "Programs that connect to the Internet should connect using", choose WORK when you are using WiFi
Let me know if that helps
Hi Jack,
I have choose the "My work network" instead of "Internet" at the top drop down box, and the lower drop down box, i have selected "My work network" however, it still doesn't work. (my home network wifi is connected)
Pls comment.
Thanks,
Kitty
OK, so is your home network encrypted? If so did you enter th networ key?
Can you try a diffrent WiFi connection? Lke at McDonalds?
Hi Jack,
I tried everything already, no matter the public free wifi, pacific coffee, McDonalds..... even i ever used the GPRS network card to go online which are all succeed, only i can not go through IE or even Opera Mobile to go the web pages.... sorry for that i know it's a bit annoying...

Hope you can help me with this.
Thanks,
Kitty
Kitty, It has to be something simple that we are missing. When you turn on the WiFi, the icon at the top of the screen should appear searching for a net work. Does that happen? If so does it detect the network?
If you press on START/SETTINGS/Connections Tab then press the WiFI Icn (I asume you have that on your device), you should get a sceen tht says CONFIGURE WIRELESS NETWORKS and you should see your network Listed. Does it say connected?
Click that network. Does it say Connects to WORK?
Also, if you click on the Network Adapters Tab, does it say WORK at the top?
Hello Kitty!
You mentioned using a GPRS network card, is this the internal card built-in to your Samsung? Is the GPRS a recent addition to your configuration?
I've heard that some external card management programs will reconfigure wireless settings to make them unusable, and I've heard similar stories about how a user can be working using WiFi and no GPRS for months, then sets-up a GPRS account and WiFi stops working immediately after. If either of these scenarios applies to you, please let us know...Help_Line wrote: Kitty, on the advanced tab where it says "Programs that connect to the Internet should connect using", choose WORK when you are using WiFi

hey hi i'm having the same problem but my one is "programs that automatically connect to the internet should connect using" plz can anyone help me out as it is really frustratingHi Jack,
You seem to know most of the answers so I'm gonna go ahead and direct my question to you!
Basically I'm not able to connect to my wireless network (although I was a couple of days ago), I tried most of the settings combinations but still no luck, it keeps on getting back to me with a message saying the network key you're entering is not correct although I'm certain I'm entering the correct key. I have no problem detecting the network but it just cannot connect. It seems like it tries to connect and then it moves to try with another network. None work.
Thanks,
MMS
Hi Jack,
Thanks for your keep trying and helping on my case, as i'm on business trip at this moment and can not try either your suggestions.... but what i can see from my phone would be one of the reason as what you've mentioned. As i can see from my Network Adaptor Tab say nothing is on the columme. However, it shows many Network Card names that i can selected.... which one i should choose? I've tried to click in one, it asked me to key in the IP address, is that the one you are talking about? Hopefully we can came across the problem.
By the way, i'll be back in town by tomorow night (Hong Kong) time, i'll try to figure it out and let you know.
Once again, thanks for your paitent and help.
B.rgds,
Kitty
Hi Helper,
As i tried both points you've mentioned above, and click the IE still doesn't work. I believe that it's not the point as you described....
I think it may be the point which Jack said before, regarding to the Network Adaptor issue, but as i'm on my business trip so that i can not try at this moment.
Will have a try when return back home town.
Thanks and Cheers,
Kitty
Hi Jack,
I aware something when i'm returned back. As i passed my phone to the shop finally and try to ask the shop guy to fix it for me. However, they couldn't do that as well, they are trying to change the other i900 phone to me as it have the same problem. Finally, i aware that both phone are in Version G3.... I'm not sure whether this is the case that i can not go online? Both phone (my one and the shop's one) have connected to WIFI, but can not use IE. I also study some books as they said, G3 was the old version and G4 is the update version. Is that true?
The phone that i bought was the English version, the shop guy try to use the Chinese version at G9 which was connected and running absouately while using IE....
Up till this moment, i feel very confusing. Is that because my phone having the version problem or the connection problem which i really don't know.
Please drop down your comment if you aware this with thanks.
B.rgds,
Kitty

Unfortunately Kitty I do not know that answer.
Can you exchange the phone for a later version?
- Hi I have the same problem . i have also come back from holiday and was able to intermittently pick up a wireless connection. I then got a message that i was blocked. i coame back home and cannot go onto the internet although the wireless network has been connected. i then checked the connectiions tab to see that there were no networks showing. if i go to the advanced tab and select networks, all the pull downs are missing. is it possible that the hot spot on holiday has somehow disabled them? how would I get back the pull downs.
sellt wrote: .... i then checked the connectiions tab to see that there were no networks showing. Verify that WiFi is turned on. Is it?
- Ispent some time looking through the registry and couldnt find anything that i could understand. I therefore made a note of all the programs that i had installed , backed up and then did a hard reset. everthing works as it should now .
Oh ... good news! Thanks for the update sellt .... good luck with it!
hi... i have the same problem.... the drop down menu is a blank screen.. no "work" or anything fo rthat matter...- In regards to the original post: The problem you are experiencing is due to the fact that the Samsung Omnia uses the 900 and 2100 mhz HSDPA frequencies (those used in europe and asia), while 3G HSDPA in the us runs on 850 and 1900 mhz.
The omnia has not yet been released in the US with a localized 850 and 1900 mhz HSDPA support, so your web browsing will be confined to GPRS/EDGE browsing.
Probably not what you wanted to hear. I'm thinking about buying an Omnia regardless, as I don't use data that much. I like the camera, design, and overall functionality of everything...minus the high speed web browsing. But regardless of the HSDPA frequencies, WiFi will (and should) work.
hi kitty
i had the same problem but i fixed with below method finally. you may try but i wish there should be a better way rather than this - it is a kind of re-set.
ensure you get back up your omnia first.
dail *#1546792*# to get in test mode
Preconfiguration->pin *#81230*#
choose Singapore and then Singtel。regards

Hi All, samsung omnia users.
There were many questions about internet connection through wi-fi local network.
I had same problem and fumbled many times to get it right.
Having figured it out, I just want to share the findings.
1. Start > Settings > Connections tab > Browser Connection
- uncheck Auto detect
- select network; Internet
- ok and get out
2. Connections
- Advanced tab
- Select which networks are automatically used > click Select Networks > select [My Work Network] in first dropdown list.
- ok and get out
3. Wi-Fi
- Add New - this should find your local wi-fi network
- click the local network > for Coonects to, select "Work" from the dropdown list > uncheck for This is a hidden network > Next tab at bottom
- select Authentication and Data Encryption for your local network you set up > Network key: is usually provided automatically > Next tab
- check Use IEEE 802.1x .... > Finish tab
- with network highlighted (i.e., selected), click Connect at bottom
- ok and get out
I found this works perfect for me.
Hope this helps anyone who might come up with same problems.
pickwickkimim having the same problem i went on holiday and i cant connect to my wifi when i got back it connects but when i go on internet explorer it say cannot connect then it says to give it my phone number. all this rubbish
- Hi Jack,
I've got the same problem but I do not have the choice"MY WORK NETWORK when using WiFi" in the drop down box
Any suggestions.
Tks - Hi Everyone.
Try the following: Go to --> Settings > Connections > Operator Settings
In there change your Provider and try if that solves the problem. If it does try changing it back to your original provider and see if the problem persists.
Good Luck! - Hi Jack,
Would greatly appreciate your help. I have the Samsung Omnia II. I have been trying to connect to the internet using GPRS without any success.
I have done the GPRS setting for my operater in start>settings>Advanced Settings>connection>connections>add a new modem connection
Browser connections>select network - Internet
I get following message when i start my IE or Opera browser "The connection has been ended. To change your connection settings, tap settings"
I am able to access net using WiFi.
Would appreciate your support.
Regards,
Sid
