repeating Alarms with selection!

In windows mobile 6.5 the possibility is gone to repeat alarms in a selectet time!!
in WM6.1 you could chose 1, 5 15 min and more to repead an alarm.
in WM6.5 (on my HTC HD2) this option is not aviable any more!!

please insert this possibility back in operating system, because it is VERY USEFUL!!

I am an end user and unofficial IT professional
I have been using the windows 7 beta and release candate for months
I have been using the office 2010 technical release and now beta
I have been using the windows phone beta

I am a windows mobile customer as well and recently upgraded to a htc touch hd (uk)
I can't understand why windows 6.5 mobile is not available for recent new mobile phone technologies
I signed in to a long term contract on my new phone, expecting to be able to upgrade my software
But so far no-one has been able to tell me when or if the software will be available

can anyone help with some answers?

Menues in strange language

Almost instantly I discover that some of the menues in the Contact section are in a language other than Swedish (could be Czech or some similar language)
Is this something that will be rectified through an update?

birthday information in outlook contacts not visible in Calender

The birthday information that I stored in my Outlook contacts is NOT visible in my Outlook Calender. I do synchronise with my Nokia E71. The contacts I used are imported from previos versions of outlook and other type of Phones and are build up in the past several years.

I use Windows Vista business edition, 6.0.6001 Service Pack 1 Build 6001
Outlook 2007 SP1 MSO part of Office Standaard 2007
Nokia E71
PC suite from Nokia version 7.1.30.9

I contacted several user groups and forums, but up till now no solution or workaround for this.

1. It is really difficult to switch between various running programs. I tried Palm pre couple of weeks back on a Sprint store. The user experience in switching the running applications is awesome.
2. When there are multiple applications running. Phone becomes so sluggish that performing some of the critical tasks (making calls, Sending text, Navigating to hoem page to kill the tasks, opening task manager) becomes really tough. Some times the only option is to do a soft reset. I would suggest that Windows mobile reserve memory and processor to perform this critical tasks.
3. I really like the new start option in WM 6.5. Start button till 6.1 was really ugly and i never understood the purpose of that. But even finding an application in windows phone is painful with multiple levels of folder struture within Start.
4. Please make programs/applications in start customizable.
5. Easily accesible search feature in phone.
6. App Store :- The fact that appstore currently has only 250 apps is really sad. Whereas you find so many applications outside of windows mobile app store. Why are they not available in Appstore?
7. Bing Maps on windows mobile is really aweful. It always searches for an address in current location, Even when i provide the complete address. I always end up using google maps. Bing Maps for windows mobile should add transit directiosn.
8. UX of Windows live messenger on mobile is not good too. They could learn from Communicator for windows mobile.

Other suggestion which i am sure you should be getting from multiple sources

1. Multi touch support
2. zune on windows mobile.
3. Xbox live on windows mobile and Zune.
4. Over the Air updates for the windows mobile.
5. Avoid telcos to install crapware on windows mobile

ActiveSync - Certificate and Battery

Automatically load the certificate instead of having to go and get it from certsrv for exchange! Something like what the iphone does much easier for users!

Have a counter showing how much energy email is taking so it can be understood in terms of battery use.

THe power of the iphone is the interface and consistency to users, the power of WinMo is that it has been around for a while and is well developed.

However, WinMo does not protect itself against failure it allows the users to outuse its resources, it shouldn't.

Apps, should only run in the background if so desired and particularly set to do so.

User interface should be easy, descriptive, intuitive, menus and functions should be dynamic and change for the function needed in the partiulcar area of use.

This is why Copy and Paste did not exist in the iPhone, the concept is if the device is well designed, you shouldn't have to copy and paste data.. that is a much smarter approach... ultimately you will always need the ability to copy and paste but it should NEVER be primary.

Serious work needs to be done in these areas.

There will always be a need for large screen no keyboard and slde out keyboard people are just people but ultimately the interfaces have to be "usable" and fast.

I recently switched from a htc touch to the samsung omnia with bell in Canada. My htc touch had the option to add the 1 in front of every call so I didn't have to listen to "This is a long distance call..." recording is there an app or a way I can have the same setting? When people call my phone the number that is stored in my call log doesn't have the 1 in front of the number so if I highlight the contact and press dial I get the this is a long disyance recording.. very annoying.. so if like the htc touch there was a auto append the number 1 setting it would be nice.

No Email notifications from Windows Mobile 6.1 while Outlook is active

We (at our company) use WiMo 6.1. When a new message is received, and the Outlook client is open, no notification is sent. If you close or minimize Outlook, new messages trigger the notification as expected.

My suggestion is that we be able to be notified of a new incoming email messages even though the Outlook is open and active.

I just watched a friend use the "Like" feature, search for "new friends", become a fan of a Facebook Fan Page, and watch video from someones facebook page. MS Facebook app can't do any of those. Calendar / Contacts integration suggestion

One area that has only recently been surfacing that i've been wanting for years is an entirely integrated calendar and contacts. Really, your contacts should be integrated into everything the OS can do. One should be able to set appointments from a contact and make a contact out of a new appointment. Sounds simple right? Show where it's happening! HTC is doing some of it. It should be built in.

   - good for cooking when your not near the oven
   - noce to have a countdown to important events
   - would be nice if it integrated in to the calander

- unlimited alarms w/ mp3 personalization
   - currently the three alarms are restrictive
   - being able to control the alarm sound and length alarm plays would be nice

- folder creation upon insertion of memory cards
   - if folders were created upon insertion of a memory card users wouldn't have to try to create a file system the the phone recognizes
   - easier customization of items like ringtones or wallpapers

- conversion tool
   - easy to program utility for converting measurment units would be appreciated
   - microsoft would be able to control the look and feel of an often used program

- social network integration
   - integration with social networks for various uses eg. contact, calander
   - social networks eg. facebook, myspace, twitter, flicker etc...

- calculator
   - currently htc owners have a calculator on their phone but this is a normal accessory in windows that should be on every phone
   - another utility mocrosoft could control quality and feel

- marketplace/program recognition for update purposes
   - currently the market place recognises programs purchased from the app store and can update those applications
   - cell phone operators and manufacturers deliver their phones with programs preinstalled, these arent recognized by the marketplace and therfore can't be updated

Homescreen as multitask manager and Lock Screen Widgets!

Hi All,

My suggestion is to use the homescreen as a task manager. If you open a program, should it be shown with the title in the home screen.
This way you can easily switch between open applications, this is need because the great thing Windows Phone does is multitasking with a lot of apps.
Also it would be nice to be able to pin an applications to the homescreen or unpin, if it's already pinned (like windows 7). You should be able to do that with everything so also the "voicemail" option, because i and i think more people don't use voicemail so it's a waste of space. So people can easily personalize their phone.

So when you hold your finger for a few seconds on the title of the program you'll get an option like "Always Show".

I made an example in flash about how it should work:

As you could see marketplace was added to the homescreen (didn't shoose the option "Always Show" to show what would happen if you pressed the X).
Here you are able to close programs that are open with the "X" (right bottom) so you can easely close programs you don't need to use anymore to free up memory space. Also with the "Always Show" option you could add "Move to Top" to allow people to order them like they want it.

I would like to be able to change how much icons on a row are visable in the start menu on some screens 2 are better sometimes 3 and on large screens 4, like on my HTC HD2.

I would like to be able to choose to sort contacts on first or last-name, if you have fewer contacts that might be easier.

Double icon for showing 3g, H, gprs speeds isn't necessary, i now Have a Big H and a small one with my receive strength. One would have been enough.

I also like it if you could add small widgets for the lock-screen, like a f1 countdown timer till next race, or the last twitt, or the weather. The widgets could also be in the marketplace.

Feel free to add comments and why you would like this or not!

Why is it still not possible with WM6.5 (Diamond 2 in my case) to use MP3s as alarm sounds. There is a folder for ringtones, why on earth can't this also be used as alarm sounds? Or from SD card...? A WAV in the windows folder uses so much unnecessary space...

Hot swapable data connection

It would be great if as users we could run through the list of potential data connections on our phones and issue a priority to each one, for example if there is a WiFi connection available then use that as first choice as it is much faster, second option is phone operator's network as it is slow and expensive. As pointed out to me on the above thread, it is currently possible to choose one connection to be used, but not assign a priority to others.

Naturally the phone should then hot-swap up and down the list as physical connections become available and go out of range, without impacting the performance of currently active transmissions. Software uploading/downloading data should be made independent of the specific connection so that Windows can make & break additional connections and swap the feed over mid-transmission. For example ActiveSync is actively syncing (sorry!!) using my mobile service provider's network when I wander into range of my WiFi, so Windows connects automatically in the background and swaps the ActiveSync connection over to the faster connection mid-stream without any loss of data.

I guess I'm suggesting that software connects to a generic Windows "Data Connection". Windows itself determines behind the scenes which service will be used to actually provide that data and is capable of swapping service provider mid-stream without affecting the calling application.

I hope I've made my thoughts clear, please drop me a line if more clarity is needed.

Upgrade Strategy??

Hello - After a long history of Windows Mobile Phones (to date 6 of them!!), last year I finally switched over to the iPhone due to one nagging problem with Microsoft Smartphones - no rom upgrades!!! :( Since purchasing the iPhone, Apple has released several ROM upgrades - some to fix issues, but a lot of them to improve the functionality. This is also the case with Blackberry. Why can't you support the existing customers who have phones that fairly new, but are left out of the new features?

The last Windows Smartphone I purchased was an HTC Touch with Mobile 6.0...after a couple of months, Mobile 6.1 is released, and once again - no support from Microsoft or HTC for an upgrade. I understand that there a lot of carriers that use these phones, but between Microsoft and the manufacturer (not the carrier) a generic version should be made available for the customer.

Ignoring this market is similar to Microsoft releasing Windows 7 only to the computer manufacturer and completing ignoring the customer and upgrade market. And the message to the customer, we don't care what you have bought in the past, but if you want Windows 7 - get a new PC. I don't think that would be a successful strategy.

I have been considering a new phone from Microsoft, but I am not going to purchase one until Microsoft has a better solution for its customers - not the carriers (they are not your end-customers).

I really welcome comments and thoughts on this point.

Multiple exchange calendars (and other such folders)

I saw the wmdev tweet to come here to make a suggestion.

I desperately need to be able to view more than one calendar on my Windows Mobile device.

In Outlook, I can create multiple calendars for myself. I can also view shared calendars. I can also view Sharepoint calendars.

I really, really need this functionality in Windows Mobile's Outlook.

I feel like I've been making this suggestion for years and it never happens. In some other devices I can at least now add multiple exchange accounts which allows me to add the other person's account. It isn't pretty as I need them to enter their password when I set it up but it is better than nothing.

(And while we are at it, why not give me multiple contacts folders, and tasks, and everything else that can have subfolders?)

More notification options per contact

Today, per contact I can set a ringtone when I get a phone call. However, I think it would be great to set a different notification alerts for SMS messages and emails. Today, you can set one alert all SMS messages and emails. When any email comes in I get the same alert notification. Not all my emails and SMS messages cary the same weight. If I'm using SCOM and get an email alert I want to respond to it immediately.

In my opinion, pairing the Windows Phone with the Zune Marketplace/Zune Pass and making some sort of Zune application will add sales to both divisions. Right now, I have a Zune and WinMo6.5 phone. I can't put ANY of my Zune Pass music on the phone, which is strange b/c they are both Microsoft products. I think Apple's marketshare can at least partially be attributed to how well all the parts play together. Further, the Zune UI is great and the Windows Media Player...is...uh....not so much great.

Please, please, please make a Zune application that supports Zune Pass on the Windows Phone. Did I say please? OK, don't wanna beg here, but...

So I just looked through the Windows Marketplace and color me horribly disappointed. What an embarassment of selection, price, and quality. You'd think with only about 80 apps listed they'd at least take the time to make them all quality and useful . . . and then I find the fart generator app. Really Windows Phone? This is what you answer to the Apple App Store is? 78 mediocre $30 apps and a Fart Generator?

Why did I ever think it would get better.

You guys need to start actually taking this seriously. Windows mobile is already a joke to most, is losing what remaining market share it had to Droid now and the much heralded marketplace is pathetic. Please tell me you are actually going to put some time and effort into this soon.

Ford Sync

I would love to see the phone compatible with the Text Messaging Bluetooth system of Ford Sync. Only phone I have ever gotten to work with this was a Motorola Razr. You would think that both systems are done by Microsoft hat they could work together 100% on all features, but they can't. I would love to have my text messages and even new email come up over my text messages on my Ford Sync.

That is the biggest, I would also love to see the requirement of the Microsoft Bluetooth stack in all devices.

Windows Media playlist and default folders?

So in Windows Media player, is there any way to make a playlist on the device? If not, how did that get missed? That seems to be a basic findamental of any media player.

Also- is there a way I can set default folders for music, videos, etc? I don't want it scanning my entire device for music when I keep it all in the same folder on my storage card.

I run a program called Griff, which is a music sequencer. I have several gigs of samples on my storage card for this purpose. I can't tell you how annoying it is to be listening to music on Windows Media Player, and the next song is only a single drum hit, then the next song is a single piano note, etc. I want to tell Windows Media Player which specific folders to include oin the library, and have it ignore the rest. And it's baffling to me that it does not already function this way.

Is there any hope that these issues will be fixed in Windows Mobile 6.5 or 7?

In outlook 2007 (and 2010) I live and die by my Unread Mail search folder. I have a number of e-mail rules setup so that as e-mail comes in, it is sorted away to various subfolders. So I simply spend all of my day in my unread mail search folder and my Tasks view.

On my Windows Phone, the only thing I can do is open up the folder list, expand everything and scroll. Hey, better than nothing but what I'd really like is just to have my unread mail search folder. I can have search folders on Outlook Web Access so bring it over to Windows Phone, Ok?

Suggestion: Leverage Zune HD for Windows Phones

The Zune HD interface is awesome. Why not leverage its interface for Windows Phones. All the "leaked" images of Mobile 7 suggest that the Zune interface is not being leveraged as well as it could. For example, the keyboard on the Zune HD is awesome, but it doesn't look like it's going to make it into Mobile 7. The Zune HD home screen is awesome (do to it's simple design), but the "leaked" images of Mobile 7 look cluttered and busy. The scroll bar on the Zune HD is small and unobtrusive, I haven't seen the Mobile 7 scroll bar, but I'm hoping that it will take a queue.

Anyway, I think Microsoft has a winner in the Zune HD interface. It would make a great starting point for a phone interface. Just remember, simple is better.

Sync with... Live?

First I was excited to hear that Vista would introduce Contacts, Mail, and Calendar. Outlook was always too much for a home user like me, but Outlook Express was never enough. I was even more excited to hear that there was a special new "Mobile Device Center" exclusive for Vista - surely now you could sync your device to these new Vista programs!

I was disappointed to find that I could not.

However, I see now that installing Windows Live Mobile allows you to sync contacts and e-mail between my device and Live. I also see that Windows Mail in Vista is being replaced by Windows Live Mail which also syncs with Live. I also notice that Live has Calendar and Task features, although I'm not sure if they sync with Vista or my mobile device yet (do they?).

So, if Live syncing is perfected, then I guess I can sync both my phone and desktop with Live and be ok. Shoot - it might even be preferable, as I won't need to connect my phone to my computer for syncing at all (unless I want to move photos or music, I guess).

The suggestion here, I guess, is to recognize that not all Windows Mobile users are business people who need a big Outlook solution. Many just want to be able to sync Contacts, Mail, Calendar, and Tasks with whichever free services are available (such as Live!).

making windows phone in line with other mobile phone behavior

A lot of people have a practice to enable call forwarding in such a way that when they receive a call to their mobile, they can reject it by pressing a reject key on their mobile and the call will forward to their nearby landline by their call forwarding setting. This is no problem for winmo, but unlike other mobile, winmo will flash the light and show missing call that they wouldn't be bothered if they used other phone like Nokia or SE.

WM 6.1 Pro - Apparent Incompatibilty with (1) Flash and (2) Website Video Files

(1) One of the relatively few gripes I have with WM 6.1 Pro on my Samsung Omnia is its apparent inability to handle Flash.
Even my lowly local weather forcast internet site requires Flash compatibility, and I can't obtain it.
I have tried repeatedly to download and install Flash 7 for pocket pc's. It apparently installs without a hitch, but whenever I visit a website that requires Flash, it always tells me that I don't have Flash on my pocket pc.

(2) I have similar problems with YouTube. The home page reads fine and responds, but when I try to view a video clip, Windows Media Player opens, Buffering starts but goes nowhere. No video data is down loaded. Nothing is viewable. I have tried installing the web available program TCPMP which is often recommended as a fix for this problem, but it too installs okay but is then inoperative on my pocket pc.

I have to say that I find it galling that a pocket pc of such general sophistication with an operating system of such high general capability, should be stumped by these commonly desired functions which fundamentally I don't see why should be such problems. The Wi-Fi data transmission speeds involved in these attempts far exceed what could be needed, for example 54MB/sec. In my opinion, WM 6.1 Pro ought to have been designed to allow & facilitate the viewing of YouTube video clips.

WM 6.1 Pro - Calendar appointments difficult to edit

I find the Calendar Appointment "Subject" really difficult to edit or add to.

The cursor location seems to move jerkily left and right making precise location of it difficult. If you wish to add to the end of the text, it is very difficult to get the cursor to locate at the right hand end of the line. Usually the attempt produces highlighting of part or all of the last word, instead of the cursor moving to the end of the word in readiness for fresh text. Just as often, the down arrow on the right side is inadvertently activated asking for possible functions, when all you want to do is to extend the words on the line. I estimate that I waste an hour or two per month trying to locate the cursor precisely, it is quite irritating.

Recommendation: 1. the display of the last character of the last word on the subject line should be followed at all times by at least one clear space to the left of the down arrow. This would facilitate locating the cursor at the end of that word without triggering the down arrow or highlighting all or part of the last word of the subject line.
2. Move the column of 11 headings of the categories for editing to the left hand side of the screen. There is no reason for "Subject:", for example, to start about 5 spaces to the right of the left margin - it just makes it harder to read and edit the shortened subject line.
3. Facilitate more accurate control of the cursor, and suppress tendancy for all or part of words to be inadvertently highlighted by normal cursor movement.

Active Tasks Filter Bug: Fixed in Windows Mobile 6.5?

I'm in the market for a new PDA/smartphone, and I was wondering if the notorious Active Tasks Filter Bug introduced in Windows Mobile 6.0 is fixed in Windows Mobile 6.5. I need to know because the Verizon rep is trying to convince me to switch to Blackberry, and as much as I'd hate to switch, Windows Mobile 6 left a sour taste in my mouth with the bugs and the "it's not a bug it's a feature" response from MS.

Sync Problems with WM 6.1 & ActiveSync 4.5

I am unable to synchronise with new mobile device with two PCs; home and office [both Windows XP]. Both have ActiveSyn 4.5. The device I bought recently is HTC Touch Diamond and runs OS Windows Mobile 6.1.

I was able to sync between both PCs previously with my old devices of WM 5.0 and WM 6.0 but the new device which has WM 6.1 gives me the following error message and only allows me to sync with one of the PCs.
