Hi, Jonathan's WWT demo with the Kinect control at MIX11 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1-tMp4WkQjA has a few features I'm not seeing in the WWT I have installed (v3.0.5.1/Penumbra Beta).

     - an Earth model with specular/phong highlighting

     - man-made near Earth satellite orbits plotted

     - and of course the Kinect control

Are these features available in the freely downloadable WWT?

    Cheers, Andrew

Except for the Kinect Control (becasue there is neither a redistributable or Go-Live license on the current SDK) all the other features shows are in the current WorldWide Telescope release.

The Earth model is in the 3d solar system mode.

The Man made satellites shown were imported from TLE data using a orbita layer over earth. The data I used was from a NORAD account and I can't share that, but there is plenty of redistibutable data avaialble on-line, just search for TLE's. (three Line element sets).

Ta. Re: Earth model. The Earth model I get is nice, but does not look anything like the Earth in that YouTube video! The clip shows a pale blue ocean and very snazzy specular highlighting (bright spot where the Sun is reflecting) Re: satellite orbits. Found these data sets at TLE.info - http://www.tle.info/data/weather.txt METEOSAT 5 (MOP 2) 1 21140U 91015B 12008.07249743 -.00000009 00000-0 10000-3 0 9311 2 21140 012.8005 038.9347 0003307 140.2474 219.8098 00.98449988 78286 Is this the sort of thing? And what do I do with it!? :) Thanks, Andrew

Apologies... I have no idea where all my linefeeds are going!?!?! Maybe this site wants me to use IE6.

To enable the earth that was shown in the video, please follow these instructions:

    * First go to the Settings tab

*Then, under the earth and planets box, uncheck the multi-res solar system bodies

This should "unlock" the planet that was shown in the kinect video.

    Hope this helps

Ta. That worked. I probably selected Multi-res right at the beginning think it was the best option in all cases.

We probably need some better examples of when to use or not use that feature.
