When Updating to a new version and after instalation progesses allmost to the end it starts rolling back. when roling back it gives me an eror. when I read more about the error I am told to remove windows live esentials. when I try to do that with the add remove utility it does not work

I've recently since going over to windows 7 had an ongoing problem with windows live. My hotmail inbox gets spammed with delivery failure notices when I haven't sent out any emails. Then when I want to send emails to contacts I notice my "vacation message option" has been loaded with some chinese manufacturing outlet advert as my outgoing vacation message. When I go to options to correct this it does not allow me to remove or edit out or delete this outgoing message.

I've reset it several times, rebooted the computer, run my virus scanners all to no avail. the folks at MSN have been no help, any ideas? thanks!

I purchased a netbook w/ Windows 7 starter and I am hearing it does not have a media player (can't run my external DVD player). Is this true?
If I upgrade to the full Windows 7, will my netbook run slow (it has a 1GB of memory)?

I maintain several blogs powered by SharePoint 2007. There are two ways to reach each of the blogs. The first one is direct access from our corp network. It uses basic authentication, so it works quite fine with WLW. But most of our bloggers work from home, so they want to be able to post via the Internet.

Our blogs are published with ISA Server 2006. It uses Forms-baset authentication (FBA) because we need user-frienly logon dialogs. Some programs like Word 2007 can handle this correctly. We have no issues blogging with Word from the Internet via ISA's FBA. But we like the features of Writer. And it seems to have problems with FBA. If I try to add a blog using public URL, which is published with ISA's FBA, I get the following error message:

Hello.

today i got the message on msn that i needed to instal the latest version of msn.
i did but i didn't like it at all.
i tried to uninstall the program but i couldn't via programmas en onderdelen.
so i deleted the folder with windows live in it.
now i cant install windows live 8.5 and when i try to install windows live 9.5 it says: already installed.

can anyone pleas help me out of this?

Windows Explorer has stopped working i get a error message that says "application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000022) click to terminate". I click ok to terminate and it says they are looking for a solution. I have gotten no help from any where. I can't even get to my start button to do a system restore. I have a blank screen, I use the task manager to get online. I am in deperate need of help, I am a student online and need to get to my start menu to get to my school stuff.

Hi, thank you for this new update for the Live Writer! I am a big fan, it's the best blogging tool available so far.

I have one problem though since your last update. I am English and Chinese bilingual. So sometimes in my blog I'd have a mixture of English of Chinese and even other languages such as Japanese or Korean characters. And when I run a spell check, what I get is a bunch of spelling errors on non English characters. If I set it to real-time spell check, I get a sea of red squigglies.

Now, this doesn't happen in Microsoft Office (pre 2007 office too), and I don't remember this happening in the earlier versions of Live Writer. It makes sense not to spell check characters from a different encoding space because they are probably put there for a reason. I don't get why the last two versions of Live Writer fail to provide the function that has been in place since the first Microsoft Office 95.

Please fix it. People who uses other languages uses Live Writer as well. 謝謝 kám-un

WLW seems to be chaging my HTML

Hi,

I have created some HTML for a form (below), and tried to paste into the 'Source' tab on my blog via WLW.

When I paste it in and press publish it works fine. But when I click on the 'edit' tab, WLW seems to alter my code (see the 2nd example below.)

I noticed this also when I put </br> whcih became <br />.

This code is part of a footer I use regularly. any ideas how to get round this? Any ideas why its hapenning?

Windows Live Authentication on custom blogs

So we have successfully completed previous level on making WLW work with SharePoint through ISA Server. Well, here's a bonus one.

Windows Live ID platform provides authentication to third-party web sites via feature called 'Web Authentication'. Lawrence Liu has created a membership provider that leverages this feature for SharePoint web sites. It works perfectly with web browser, but WLW does not uderstand it.

Here's how WLW generally works with SharePoint. When we specify blog type as 'SharePoint Blog' writer makes a request to '/_layouts/metaweblog.aspx'. When native Windows or ASP.NET authentication is in use, the server returns

Status Code: 401, Unauthorized
Reason: Unauthorized
WWWAuthenticate: Basic

So WLW understands that it needs to supply user credentials to proceed and it prompts a user for them.

But when we use Live ID Mempersip Provider, we need to redirect authentication requests to Windows Live web site for users to provide their credentials via web form. We typically achieve this adding LoginURL property to our web.config file.

We have to assume here that the client is always a web browser. So when WLW makes a request to protected web page (which is '/_layouts/metaweblog.aspx'), the server tries to redirect it to Live ID authentication form.

StatusCode: 302, Moved temporarily
Reason: Found
Location: /_layouts/liveauth-handler.aspx?action=login&ReturnUrl=%2f_layouts%2fmetaweblog.aspx

But this is actually someting that WLW does not expect. So it shows us an error message, telling that it can not proceed with this blog.

Well, it seems that WLW generally can work with Live ID. It is the only authentication scheme available for Windows Live Spaces. And Spaces are natively supported by WLW. But the story with Spaces is quite different from SharePoint.

When we specify blog type as 'Windows Live Spaces', then the very first thing WLW does is asking user for his/her LiveID. And the second thing is checking the credentials supplied by talking securely via SSL to login.live.com. And only after this it starts working with the Spaces itself at http://spaces.live.com/api.aspx.

So it seems to me that WLW supports LiveID using Client Autentication, not Web Authentication. And here's my feature request to WLW team. Would you be so kind to extend this support to custom blogs using the same authentication scheme? At least to SharePoint with Live ID Membership Provider.

I use WLW to manage dozens of blogs. When I have a new writer come on board they have to add them all. It would be super sweet if every time I add a new blog or have a new writer come on board we all didn't have to enter in th exact same FTP info for all of the dozens of blogs.

Can you add a default account and also a default setting so that all blogs upload to these server settings unless told otherwise?

I use a netbook for web posting from time to time to a WordPress blog with WLW 14.0.5025.904. Now I know WLW is in beta and I love it, however a few things really cause me hassle:

On a netbook with a 1024x600 screen size WLW really shows off how badly it makes use of available screen space. I can't turn off or move any of the toolbars and some of the options disappear off the bottom of the screen (like saving the default image settings).

Is there any chance WLW could be adjusted to either make better use of screen real-estate or allow us to move toolbars and button around?

I can't get to the "save settings as defaults" image button at the moment which is really frustrating.

On another point, where are all the settings like image defaults stored? I'll edit it manually if I have to.

Hi, I am having problems embedding a video to my blog using a 3rd party hosting site. Error: Windows Live Writer has encountered a problem: Value of '0' is not valid for 'index'. 'index' should be between 0 and -1.

I've copied and pasted the same code a number of times (I know it is correct) and I've even tried other videos. Same problem. Could it be that the video is too large? It's over 700mb.

Blog titles with ampersands

My blog title has an ampersand (&) in it. When Live Writer publishes, the little status dialog doesn't escape the character properly, and thus displays it as a space+underscore.

The bug may surface elsewhere in your UI, but I haven't tested yet. (Windows Media Player is rife with similar ampersand issues - I hope you can raise the bar).

I have a Windows Live account and want to add a blog to my website. I downloaded Windows Live Writer (Version 14.0.8050.1202) and went through these steps:

Configure Windows Live Writer – hit NEXT

Selected: I don’t have a blog; create one on Windows Live for me – hit NEXT

Entered Windows Live ID and password – hit NEXT

A screen appears briefly called "setting up your blog account", but then I get the "select blog type" screen which needs a blog type and a url - so I assume the blog creation has failed.

Anyone know how to make this work ?
