  • Good Morning Pajodublin,

I would like to help you with the situation.  Can you provide me with the website, email address, phone number and any other information where you purchased the computer?  Also did you receive all of the original software media with the computer? Has the computer been turned in for repairs since your purchase or is the system in its orginal form since purchase?

Thank you for posting your diagnostic information. We are sorry to hear about the problem your currently experiencing. Diagnostic results help our team in determining the root cause of your issue. The Windows XP Professional and Office Enterprise 2007 product keys installed on this computer were not assigned by Microsoft. The keys are counterfeit and was most likely generated by a key generator. The product key found on your computer has been detected on multiple computers. Product keys are only allowed to be used on one computer unless otherwise specified in the end user licensing agreement (EULA).  You will find numerous sites where this key has been posted.  Use your favorite search engine and paste in the product key.  Below could be a possible scenario.

There are situations which can cause Windows and Office to become non-genuine. Let me give one example.  Customers have taken in their systems along with all the software received when purchasing their system. The customer picks up the system and viola' no problems whatsoever until they need to download an update or even a template used with MS Office. Suddenly their system is non-genuine. The customer's computer was not installed with their software but either a blocked Volume Licensing Key (VLK) or a keygen’d product key. Also the software could work for several weeks, months or even a year or more then suddenly becomes blocked.

This is why you may be seeing the "Software Counterfeiting" messages on your computer. You will need to uninstall Windows XP Professional and Office Enterprise 2007 before any further complications occur from being non-genuine. As a customer there are several options available for you to get Genuine. For details on the ways to “Get Genuine”, see the web page that outlined your validation failure details or http://www.microsoft.com/genuine .  It will provide all of the possible steps which you can take. Also please review the Validation Advisor for further guidance at: https://www.microsoft.com/genuine/selfhelp/ValidationHelp.aspx

First, if this comes as a total surprise to you, please visit the retailer where you purchased the computer or operating system and let them know the operating system is a counterfeit copy.  Please print a copy of the diagnostic report so you may show them proof for the VLK status. Request they immediately reimburse you and/or provide a Genuine Copy.

Windows Genuine Advantage (WGA) is here to help protect YOU, our valued customer. It is important for more people like you, who have become victims, to report piracy @ http://www.microsoft.com/piracy/default.mspx  . Microsoft legal will follow up on all leads provided.  Submitting piracy reports will assist in stopping unscrupulous business practices.  You may be eligible for free software if you have high quality counterfeit discs.

Again, we are sorry to hear about your situation. Please be sure to backup or otherwise offload any data from the hard disk because a clean installation/reimaging will destroy all personal user data on the hard drive. Please don't hesitate re-posting if you need further assistance.

  • Pajodublin,

Is the Certificate of Authenticity on the bottom of your Sony laptop for XP Home Edition, XP Professional Edition, XP Tablet Edition, or for XP Media Center Edition?

  • Pajodublin,

Right now, your Sony computer has a Volume Licensing edition of XP Pro installed (Line 10), and that installation was done with a now-blocked Volume Licensing Key (VLK) (Line 2).  VLKs are blocked by Microsoft at the request of the original keyholder for such reasons as the key was lost, stolen, compromised, misused, or expired.  Also, MS may have blocked the key if it notices a pattern of misuse, ie, more installations of XP using that key than authorized.

As a rule, VL editions of XP should not be sold to individual consumers.  Businesses, schools and gov'ts normally use VL editions for flexibility in installing many computers.  Also, Volume Licensing editons of XP are Upgrade licenses only and cannot be legitimatey used as the original or base license for a computer.

If you search the forum for the part of the Product Key shown by the mgadiag utility, *****-*****-233QF-RRXC7-VF7TY, you'll see that two other posters have reported encountering that same blocked PK.

This is why you were seeing the "software counterfeiting" messages on your computer, because the current installation of XP is an unauthorized installation.

Also, please note that the mgadiag utility is identifying your installation of Office 2007 Enterprise as being Nongenuine because it, too, was installed with a Blocked Volume Licensing Key (Office Status:  103 means nongenuine).  If this comes as a surprise to you, please return to the place of purchase and demand either genuine Office software or a refund.  In any case, please uninstall the nongenuine Office 2007 Enterprise installation from your computer.  I can guarantee that Office 2007 Enterprise did NOT come installed on the computer when it shipped from Sony.

Luckily, the solution to your problem is simple but laborious.  Use the recovery solution supplied by Sony to replace the nongenuine installation of XP Pro with the genuine original installation of XP, which as indicated on the CoA is XP Home.  You verified this by looking on the Certificate of Authenticity to see which edition of XP came with the computer.  Be sure to back up and offload your data before you do this because typically the recovery process destroys all data on the hard disk.

If you do not have the Recovery CD supplied by Sony, you can order Recovery CDs for many Sony models directly from Sony for a reasonably modest fee.  Start at the dedicated support page for your exact model at sony.com.  If they cannot help you, try http://www.restoredisks.com

Good Luck and post back to tell us how you are doing!

I will uninstall the Office immediately

  • Pajodublin,

Contact Sony Technicial Support @ http://esupport.sony.com/?ref=http://www.sony.com/index.php .  Next inquire how much the recovery media disc will cost for your particular.

Guess you can't remember any information who you purchased the computer from. If you like file a piracy report and you @ http://www.microsoft.com/piracy . You may qualify for free software.
