Live Mesh Messes Up Windows XP Display

I'm having problem with Live Mesh on my Windows XP SP3 PC. When Mesh is installed, the display settings are changed horribly to Screen Resolution- 640 x 480 and Color Quality- Lower(4 bit). I tried changing the resoluition to normal settings but it is not happining. After few attempts I gave up and uninstalled Live Mesh and now the display is proper.

I love to use Live Mesh, but seems to be something wrong with the XP + the hardware combination on my PC + Live Mesh. Is any one else facing the problem? is there any work around?

Speed IS the issue - especially with no reliable progress indicator. Is there yet a definitive answer please?

I have looked through this and several other forums and can't find a real answer. So here goes -
Status:
Win7 Pro 64bit on my desktop computer.
Win7 Pro 32bit on my laptop.
On same subnet (desktop via ethernet to Belkin N+ Wireless Router then Wireless to the Laptop)
Attempting P2P sync desktop to laptop by adding folder to Mesh, set not to sync with LiveDesktop.
Folder = 658 subfolders, 8897 files - total 38GB.
Mesh created folder to laptop Desktop (default, not given a choice as far as I could see.) Took 3 minutes to populate that folder with 658 folders.
1.5 hours later there was only a desktop.ini file in the sync'd folder on the laptop. (Wow - It's just creating a .wlx file as I speak.)
I have been monitoring MOE activity in Resource Monitor. Only IE8 is active (while I search forums for answers!). Resource Monitor has shown almost no activity (until I started writing this message - does Mesh have a guilty conscience?)
Suddenly files are starting to appear on my laptop.........
Assuming that all the files will now get across to the laptop (Folder size now reported at >6MB) -
Can I just drag the Mesh folder from the Desktop to the location where I want it? Will it still sync back to the desktop machine when I modify files on the laptop? (and vice versa of course.)
I have read all the help files but simply could not understand what I was missing.
I tried several small folder/file syncs before starting this big one. They all eventually succeeded - but I have not been able to figure out how to get the live mesh folders into the right location on the laptop. (Oh - and I never see a spinning icon either.)
If the sync ever finishes I'll submit a log file.
Meanwhile, if anyone (Mr. Boots? :-)) can comment on speed; setting desired folder location; a progress indicator, I would be very grateful.

LiveMesh should be exactly what I need. Desktop to Laptop sync for when I'm on the road; Mesh with family members and a couple of friends to whom I am an unpaid "help desk"; etc, etc.

Sync now stopped at 12.7MB :-(

"Hide Desktop On Report Computer" does NOT work in Windows 7. It gives an error message saying "Can't hide desktop on repote computer"

Files don't sync on Windows 7 Ultimate 64bits

I was using Live Mesh without any problem on Windows Vista 32bits and 64bits.
I upgraded both my desktop to Windows 7 Ultimate (32 bits) and my laptop to Windows 7 Ultimate (64 bits) a month ago.

Starting from that, my laptop files never get sync again.
I can see the updates on Living Desktop if I modify the files via my desktop.
I can also see the updates on my desktop if I modify the files via my laptop or via Live Desktop.
However, I can never see the update on my laptop no matter I modify it via my desktop or via Live Desktop.

I tried to un-sync and re-sync all my files. Doesn't help.
I tried to reinstall Live Mesh. Doesn't help.

So Live Mesh doesn't work really well on Windows 7 64 bits yet I guess?
Or does anybody encounter similar problem?

Before I encounter this problem, I really appreciate Microsoft is really doing a good job since I have a multiple computers and I need my files being sync all the time without me worry about it. It does all the work automatically.
I could always reach my files via the Live Desktop even I dont have my own computer.
I am kind of disappointed after I upgraded to Windows 7 and all the problems that I worried about pop up. (Some files get sync... and some files don't... )

Hopefully the problem can be solved soon.

Change Live Mesh folder directory

Hi,

I have a laptop and a computer. I take my laptop with me to school every day and my computer stays home.
I use Live Mesh to synchronize the folder where all my school documents are stored in. It's called 'School'.

What I did:
Right-click the 'School' folder and 'Add folder to Live Mesh'.
Sync Settings; Sync with my laptop and computer (not online).
When I look at my PC, I see the folder on my desktop. Now there are two 'School' folders.
1: on my laptop: "D:\School"
2: on my PC: at the desktop.

I want to have both folders at the path: "D:\School". (both on my laptop and my PC)

Issue : I moved a Live Mesh folder to a new location (or renamed a Live Mesh folder) and now it's no longer synchronizing .
Workaround : Go to the Live Mesh notifier and click Manage folders ; in the Explorer window that opens, right-click on the folder that you want to synchronize again and select Sync with this device... ; in the Synchronize folder dialog box you can click Browse and select the new location of the folder .

But when I view this window. The path and the browse button are both inactive. I can't click/change them :(

How can I fix this? I just want 1 folder to sync with 2 devices at the same directory (D:\School)

It would be helpful to new users if there were some basic start up guides and maybe a few how-to videos. Something like Office Live has in place. I know that I have some general questions to pose because there is very little documentation, and I have looked through what there is. So bear with me here.

What would be the best recommendation on syncing files. Should I choose files from just one pc, say the laptop, and upload those to the mesh first. Then sync to my desktop? Or, can I upload from both machines and they meet in the middle, so to speak, sync and merge into one across all machines? Can I bypass the virtual desktop all together and syn directly, file to file? Or is there a better way for this.? I am looking for something that can keep my files in sync across multiple machines in near real time, if that is even possible.

Hello,
I have approx 21GB of data in a folder C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Live Mesh\GacBase\HoldingArea

They're all copies of MP3 that I don't store in the cloud (obviously, given that the limit in the cloud is 21GB).

Why are they there?
Can I safely get rid of them?

The My Documents folder (C:\Users\XXXXXX\Documents) doesn't have the option to be added to Live Mesh in Windows 7. When I right click on it in the explorer, the "Add folder to Live Mesh..." option isn't there.

This folder does not contain the desktop folder in Win 7, so I don't see why it can't be sync'd across machines. It doesn't appear to be marked as a system folder either. It makes no difference whether I have this included in the "Documents" library structure or not.

Ideas?

Now that I have put all my music and pictures on mesh, I want to get access to them, and can't connect to Live Desktop....it says Cannot connect. Refresh. Any ideas? It won't tell me anything else!

Hi I have a macbook in my mesh, things were running perfectly, until i add a imac to the dsame mesh. The mesh is assuming that they are the same device. When i add a new device, i go trough all the procedures but in fact he adds the same one that already exists.
The old one runs with Leopard and the new one runs with Snow Leopard.
I migrate the system and files to the new one using the snow leopard migration assistant.
I already did the whole thing a couple o times, always with the same result.
I have different names for the 2 macs.
What else can i say...

I have been sent an invitation to share a friends folder. However, when I click on the link to view the invitation I am just logged into my live desktop but get no option to accept the invitation. The folder does not appear for me to view or sync.

Live Desktop not being updated

I'm trying to sync My Pictures Folder (with many sub-folders) between my PC and Live Desktop.
Storage shows 4042MB used which is also the actual size of My Pictures folder on my PC.
When I click on Pictures folder in Live Desktop it shows 3114MB confirming that this amount of data was uploaded within the first 3 days.

The strange part is that even though my Live Mesh Client shows that it is uploading, the size of My Pictures folder has not changed since more than 2 weeks now, with many pictures showing the "not yet uploaded icon".

I know it sounds wierd to say the least but I'd really appreciate if someone could guide me :-)

Live Mesh will not work on eMachine T2698; no remote access

I have two Dell laptops and an eMachine T2698 on my mesh. The eMachine synchronizes properly but I cannot access my eMachine T2698 from the Dell computers which are also on my mesh. I have completely uninstalled Live Mesh two times from the T2698 including removal of certain items from the registry - and by checking the Windows Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel I see that Live Mesh was completely gone both times. I have twice reinstalled Live Mesh from the .exe file which I saved on my desktop (per hints found in alensiljak.blogspot.com). Each time I find that it synchronizes properly but the eMachine cannot be accessed remotely. What am I doing wrong?

eMachines T2698 with 1g ram and 250g hard drive running XP. The two Dell laptops work fine with Live Mesh. When I am using the T2698 I can access both Dell laptops and work with them. But I cannot access the eMachine from either of the Dell laptops.

Hi guys, just like to know what's going on. From a few articles that I read, like this one:

it almost sounds like LiveMesh technology might get integrated into future windows live services, but not as we know the service (Mesh) right now. Does that mean that LiveMesh as such is gonna be discontinued?
On a side note, how come LiveSync is being installed silently with Windows Live Essentials ...? you find out by browsing the Windows Live install folder, and it's indeed there, but why isn't it mentioned before the install and why is there no shortcut to it in the start menu by default?
I personally prefer LiveMesh from far to LiveSync, but I got the feeling that Mesh is going to vanish purely and simply. Too bad as the concept outperforms many communication tools between computers in my opinion. So, do we have to understand that LiveMesh could be integrated to SkyDrive, or not, or what, what's up ? thanks in advance for your comments :)

Problem in Synchronizing folders with other pc

I've installed Live Mesh and right now trying to sync folders with other pc.

To do this: I've change Synchronization settings for other device (different pc) as "when files are added or modified", following error is thrown

Could not synchronize folder in Live Mesh.

Request to MOE failed with status code:
401 Not authorized to access the specified resource.

Any idea what can be the issue here.

Cannot display icons on the main monitor

I used remote mesh desktop function to connect to my 4 monitor system at work from my laptop at home. I noticed that all open windows spread on my 4 monitor system showed up on my laptop screen.

Back at work, I noticed a curtain driver monitor in display properties. I had to turn (extend my desktop) on the other 3 monitors as they were disabled. The curtain driver monitor remain greyed out.

My problem is that the desktop icons on my main monitor (monitor 1) have moved to the monitor 3. I cannot re-position these icons to my main monitor, where they have always resided.

If anyone has a solution, please let me know.

Snow Leopard - Mesh "sign-in" is grayed out

So everything synced to the machine. It was working for a while. After hibernation, the client "sign-in" is grayed out. I have already updated to the latest version that was just released. Anyone else see this and have a quick fix?

Folder stops syncronising

Something I've seen happen a few times is that a folder just stops syncronising, apparantly for no reason. It usually happens after I don't connect to the internet for a few days and made changes inside the Mesh Folders, while other users on the same mesh, having been on the net, also made their own changes. After getting back on the net, the folder still is blue, but if I right click on it, it gives the option to "Add this folder to Live Mesh".

Anyone got any tips?

"Failed to start live mesh" message

I cannot get live mesh working on my xp laptop. I continually get the "failed to start live mesh" error after installing/reinstalling. However, when I create a new user account, live mesh will install and I can log into my mesh (which currently has 3 other computers). What am I doing wrong and why isn't there any solutions on the internet?

Are there types of files or folders that I cannot share or synchronize?

Since a few days Live Mesh is not working properly anymore. I have 4 PCs 3 of which I use regularily 2 of which are Win7 machines and one is Vista.
I never had any problems and I have been using Live Mesh for over a year now.
Now all of a sudden syncing has become totally erratic.

The live desktop will have different files (some synced some not) than the two machines. Some things sync some don't.
It is most obvious in my IE8 favourites folder which I use to sync my bookmarks over all machines. The bookmarks will sometimes upload to the Live Desktop from one machine but won't be synced to the other machines.
Does anyone experience similar issues?

Hello,

I created a new folder in my live desktop and I uploaded a few PDF files to this folder.
When I wanted to synchronize my live desktop with my local PC, I didn't see any new folders created on my desktop.
I tried to create a folder with the same name on my PC, but this didn't help. I think things got slightly worse because in the "live mesh folders" this folder still exists, even though I deleted it from my PC and my live desktop.
I appreciate if someone can tell me how to synchronize a new folder created in the live desktop with my local PC.

LiveMesh does not synch on my Mac

Bought the Mac early in 2009; it came with Leopard and Live Mesh installed and operated correctly. On upgrading to Snow Leopard of course it didn't work. With the new download, I can get Live Mesh up and running through the Live Mesh site but it does not complete the synchronization on start-up or any time the computer is running.

Through the Live Mesh website I can see my notebook computer and also Live Desktop. The desktop entry will allow me to access our Live Mesh network but if I attempt to call up through the MacBook Pro, all I get is a message telling me I'm not connected to the internet.

Will I just have to get used to this other entry method or is there something else I can do for the automatic synch to occur on start-up?

Thanking you in advance. Our office is running very nicely on Live Mesh for all our realtime information.

Live Mesh Questions About Features

The Live Mesh web page provides very little practical and relevant information therefore I'm asking here.

Does Live Mesh includes any of the following features?

1 - Encryption

File encryption before leaving the user's computer.

2 - Delta encoding/compression

Sending only the differences at block level

3 - Block and file level deduplication

Only storing a copy of a file or block if the same file or block appears more than one time.

4 - File revision/versioning

Keep files versions of every file stored. Never delete a file in the "cloud".

5 - Local synchronization / synchronization between computers on the same network without passing through Microsoft's servers

I recently changed the e-mail address associated with my LiveID, and can no longer sign in to the Live Mesh Beta web site.

After logging in, I get sent to here: https://www.mesh.com/Web/TermsOfUse.aspx?redir=%2fWeb%2fDevices.aspx%3flc%3d1033
I select the "I agree" button, and immediately get redirected back to this page.

cannot install live mesh on new windows 7 computer

I had live mesh installed on old computer (xp). I used pc mover to migrate everything from old pc to new windows 7 pro 64 bit machine. Tried to sign on, would not work, even though little icon said mesh starting. I tried to uninstall live mesh. Would not uninstall. Got error message to the effect of "use msi appropriate for your processor". Went through windows explorer and tried to delete all of live mesh. Finally successful in that, although at first got message that I could not delete as certain files were open on live desktop. Signed out of live dekstop and then deleted files. No Live Mesh files appear on my explorer list anywhere. However, Live Mesh icon still appears when I go to uninstall. Can't reinstall as I get error message that Live Desktop is waiting for install to finish or that Live Mesh is installed already. Please help. Love this program and have it on three other machines.

Hi!

I have an error when I install Live Mesh. The install process is success running.

After installing, Live Mesh speak "Starting Live Mesh". But after a long time, Live Mesh speak "An error occur" and Live Mesh not started.

Any people have this problem ?
Do you any solution ?

What happened to the speed of Live Mesh Remote Desktop?

Hi,

I used to use Live Mesh Remote Desktop all the time to help my parents with their computer issues. It seems like it has been totally unusable for the past several months in that the slowness is unbearable. 15-30 seconds before the screen responds to each mouse click is just too long. I'm using a very fast internet connection so I know that is not the problem.

I used to love this product and now it's so slow that it isn't useful at all. Is this happening to everyone, or is it just me?

Files only exist on the desktop.

I'm syncing a folder with 2 computers and the live desktop.
after a couple of day now I need something from the folder
and the files are missing the directory structure remains but it is empty on both computers
However, the live desktop has everything on it.
I signed out of the client on both computers.
I want to go back to livesync but my files are all on the desktop
Is there an easy way to download all of them?

I also have a folder I was sharing between 2 computer only since it was too big for the desktop
both computers have just empty directories now. Is there ay way to recover the files that were deleted?

Does Live Mesh play nicely with WHS?

I want to use Live Mesh to move some Recorded TV files from my WHS server to the cloud (I use SageTV for WHS as my PVR software). What I would like to do is record a TV show, compress it to MPEG-4 and then upload it to the cloud. Will Live Mesh work properly on WHS and can I just copy a file from my TV Shows folder to a Live mesh folder to accomplish the syncing? I have read that Live Mesh doesn't like UNC paths - if this is so should I first copy the file from my WHS drive to my C drive ( ie. copy \\server\TVshows\flintstones.avi c:\TVshows) and then to the cloud?

File Conflicts or Missing Files: UPDATE

Last week we started a thread about a recently discovered issue that could cause customers to see Live Mesh folders with either an unusually large number of conflicts, or files missing all together. As our recent Announcement and blog post mention, we have started to fix this issue. Those who have been most severly impacted by this bug have begun to receive e-mail from us with an offer to have us perform an automated clean up tool on our servers to resolve spurious conflicts and retrieve missing files. We will also be posting manual clean up steps very soon for anyone who has a small number of conflicts, or who would simply prefer to fix the problem manually.

For those of you who, in the coming days, receive email confirming that our automated clean up tool has been run on your Live Mesh folders, or for those who choose the manual approach: Please let us know of any instances in which your folders seem to have remained in conflict even after clean up, or if you have still have missing files.

Desktop plug-in not installing

I am having issues for Live Mesh Add-in under my windows 7 pro RTM

I tried to connect to remote desktop and tried to enable drag and drop for folder contents off the live desktop and both fail because the Add-in's are not installing.

I have done the following:

1. lowered internet security to medium

2. added https://www.mesh.com to the trusted sites list.

what i see is the following:

i click connect or the "click here to enable file drag and drop"

for the "Click here to enable file drag and drop" i get a dialog confirming i want to install the plugin. Next a IE 8 window pops-up and says installing the Live Desktop plug -in. A yellow indicator bar appears confirming i want to install the Live Mesh add-on and i allow it. UAC confirms i want to install and I confirm. After that nothing.

for the "connect" for remote desktop i see a similar problem except once the add-in is supposedlty installed i get a little red x in the browser window.

I have tried this on my vista box and it works well and none of these issues.

How can I recover the files deleted?

Last week, there were some folders in the Live Mesh appeared automatically. They had the same name as the original ones, so the system renamed them like XXXX (2), and then I deleted those folders repeated, XXXX (2). After that, I found there was nothing in my original folders in which my files were supposed to be saved.

How can I recover those files? Because they are so important to me.

Last friday when I looked in my folder monitored by the Mesh, almost all the files desapeared!!! And the files aren't in the bin!!!
I don't know what happened! These files are very importants!!!
Can the Microsoft recover my files, that suddenly deleted by the Mesh?

Folder Groupings

Today is my first day using Live Mesh. Looks good so far but I already have an organizational related feature request:

1. On the live desktop, can you add ability to group folders into either tabs or sub folders?

2. Could you offer different color/icons for the folders on the desktop? Maybe i can select a color from a popup platelet and browse for custom icons to replace the default folder icons?
