How to Set up Alerts and Reminders in PWA SITE???

Hii
i do not have much idea about how to configure alerts and reminders in Pwa site,i have filled all the fields in Alerts and Reminders under the Operational Policies,and have also configured project managers alerts and reminders under personal settings,but it's not working.Is there any other step which i am missing,is ther any thing that has to be set in Central Administration
Please help me

1. Those are the only steps for using the Alerts and Reminders
2. Please check that the SMTP server you have mentioned in the Operational Policies is correct and functional
3. SMTP server is configured correctly to accept mail send requests from your server
