Windows Genuine Advantage Notification (KB905474)
I have a Dell Dimension 8200 computer with windows XP Pro (SP2), and all of the applicable MS security updates except for KB905474. I also have a problem with needing to validate windows on my computer each time I visit the MS update web site. I can get the validation complete message each time I ask for the validation, but this must be done each time I visit the MS security update web site and before I can download any security upgrades. The following may be of some interest: Windows Genuine Advantage Validation Tool (KB892130) version 1.5.053.0) and Windows Genuine Adavantage Notifications (KB905474) version 1.5.0532.02)
Would appreciate any help to resolve this issue. Thanks, Sam.
P.S. I should note that my computer was purchased new from DELL

I brought a logitech Quickcam Pro 5000 web cam. It will not let me install until I upgrade to window XP service pack 2. While attempting to downlad this pack from microsoft site, i continually get a similar related problem (to the above problem you responded to) during download.
Windows Genuine advantage tool (KB892130) fails with error code 0x80070002 on my dell (Optiflex GX270) computer (purchased from my place of work after the lease ran out). Have looked at various suggested solutions including deletion of keys in the regedit32.exe, that do not exist and mods to Automatic update page.
Following the diagnostic tool info above, I have don the same hope you can review and assist.
Thanks
Steve....

The Bedwards,
Your internet connection seems to have a Proxy setting enabled, which may be responsible for the problem.

Please try disabling the proxy and try again. However, please make a note of the details of the setting so that you can restore the setting if needed.
Post back and keep us informed.

Can you advice how I disable this proxy. Is it possible to provide a step procedure.
Thanks and appreciate the response
The Bedwards,
1.
In Internet Explorer, click the Tools menu, and then click Internet Options.
2.
Click the Connections tab, and then click LAN Settings.
3.
Write down the settings that are displayed, just in case.
4. In the Proxy server area, de-select the Use a proxy server check box.
5. Click OK. Close Internet Explorer. Restart your computer.
6. Rerun the mgadiag utility and check the report to see if the proxy setting is no longer in effect.
7. Retry getting SP2 from Windows Update.
Let us know how it's going!

First please visit the following Knowledge Base (KB) article “Updates are not installed successfully from Windows Update, from Microsoft Update, or by using Automatic Updates after you repair a Windows XP installation” located @ http://support.microsoft.com/kb/943144 . Also visit the XP Newsgroups @ http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone/newsgroups/reader.mspx?query=Validation+Tool+%28KB892130&dg=microsoft.public.windowsupdate&cat=en-us-ms-winxp&lang=en&cr=US&pt=&catlist=B0DE109D-10E1-4C3C-BCC9-8EB7A22FC6A0&dglist=&ptlist=&exp=&sloc=en-us and search for Validation Tool KB892130. There are many articles you can review.
Next, recently many users have experienced problems surrounding the Windows Genuine Advantage Validation Tool (KB892130). If you find that Windows Update refuses to install most patches, you can register its missing DLLs yourself. This can be accomplished by manually entering seven commands (shown in Step 2, below) at a command prompt. If you need to run the fix on multiple machines, it's easiest to use a batch file, as Steps 1 through 5 explain:
Step 1. Open Notepad (or any text editor).
Step 2. Copy and paste the following command lines into the Notepad window (the /s switch runs the commands silently, freeing you from having to press Enter after each line):
regsvr32 /s wuapi.dll
regsvr32 /s wuaueng1.dll
regsvr32 /s wuaueng.dll
regsvr32 /s wucltui.dll
regsvr32 /s wups2.dll
regsvr32 /s wups.dll
regsvr32 /s wuweb.dll
Step 3. Save the file to your desktop, using a .bat or .cmd extension.
Step 4. Double-click the icon of the .bat or .cmd file.
Step 5. A command window will open, run the commands, and then close.
The next time you visit the Windows Update site, you should not have any problem installing the latest patches.Another possible fix is to install an older version of the Windows Update files (downloadable from Step 2 of Microsoft Knowledge Base article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927891/en-us#SPR over the newer version. This will involve launching the installer from a command line using a switch know as /wuforce.

When I run Microsoft Update, I get offered KB905474, WGA Notification. When it tries to install, it fails. I downloaded the standalone version and it fails when it tries to install. It gives the error as, "Server pack version of this system is newer than this update". Here is my mgadiag. How can I get KB905474 to install or "clear out". I don't want to hide it.......
Thanks
