QuestionWindows Mobile Device Center sync of Hotmail folders in Outlook

I have Outlook sync'd to my Windows Live premium account via the Outlook connector (calendar, email, contacts), However, I can't seem to sync these folders to my Smartphone via the Mobile Device Center. It's defaulting to the standard email, calendar, and contact folders within Outlook for syncronization. How can I get the device sync'd? Prior to my Vista upgrade, Activesync seemed to do this fine with the prior Outlook Connector. Thanks!

you can only sync with outlook contactg, calendar, email and tasks. I assume your windows Live account is being synchronized with Windows Mail, Windows Calendar and Windows Contacts. Those will not sync with your device.

Actually, no. I'm not synchronizing with Windows Mail/Calendar/Contacts but with Outlook. Within Outlook there is the standard default set of folders and then the Hotmail folders. I suspect that Mobile Device Center is trying to sync with the default folders and not the Hotmail ones? I've selected to have all sync with Mobile Device Center. It syncs without error, but nothing ends up on my phone.

You are right. WMDC will sync with the default Outlook folders only.

There are thousands of postings requesting mobile sync of multiple calendars.  One of the reasons is to fix this hotmail thing.  It is bad enough that WM won't sync directly with the hotmail calendar via the Internet.  Using Outlook is a bit clumsy but acceptable because most people will also sync Outlook on their PC to their hotmail calendar.  The problem the poster has pointed out is that stupid Active Sync will only "see" the default folders rather than the Hotmail "linked" folders.  Also, there is no way to get the hotmail calendar to merge onto the default calendar.  This is another impossible thing.

the reason this is PERMANENTLY broken is that 4 different groups at Microsoft are responsible--AND THEY DON'T CARE.  Groups at MS only care about their own product.  This requires cooperation from Windows Live (e.g., Hotmail), Outlook, Exchange, and Windows Mobile.  A completely hopeless cockup.

Time to switch to Blackberry or to Gphone and Gmail.  MS will NEVER, EVER solve this.  Actuallly, Windows Mobile 7 might fix it, but no one knows when it will ship.  And you'll need to buy another phone then to get WM7 (in 2 years). So, you might as well buy a different phone that works today.

This is truly horrible. Previously things worked nicely syncing with outlook, with WMDC you can just do the most basic things. And even that is almost everytime difficult.

I just cant believe they just skipped syncing against many folders.

I was hoping that this had been fixed by now. This is patheticly bad and destroys my Windows Mobile experience.

I don't think that this happens because there are N groups involved within Microsoft. I think it happens because Microsoft employees have and use Exchange. For anyone at MSFT that reads this, imagine if you couldn't get your Exchange calendar to Windows Mobile. Doesn't feel good does it? That is *exactly* how your Hotmail customers feel. We are stuck.
