I'm currently working on completing the MCAD, and am just about ready to begin my first test. Since the tests expire in March of '09, will I still be able to upgrade to MCTS afterwards?
In other words, does my MCAD certification expire in March of '09 too, making me not eligible for the upgrade?
From my research, I am aware, it is not the MCAD that expires but only the exams that expire ie 70-315 if you are going for c#. Think about it, the exams for the MCAD focus on versions 1.0 and 1.0 of the .NET framework and now most organisations are moving forward with .NET 2.0 and 3.0 and even 3.5 so if I were you, I would not just stop with achieving MCAD! I would immediately start thinking of the upgrade exams that align towards MCPD!!!!!!!
That way you are consistently looking towards making sure the certification levels you are at are relevant to industry needs.
Right now VS2005 and .NET 2.0 is very much the current requirement so MCAD certification will only touch upon some of the criteria. I would be thinking......ok so now MCSD which encompasses much more than MCAD, what exams should I now be focusing on?
Then when I have achieved MCSD I would be going for the upgrade exam 70-551 which takes me to MCPD status for .NET 2.0 and VS2005 (if you are following the web development path).
That means in the future you only need to do an upgrade exam to be qualified in the latest version of .NET and Visual Studio!
Hope this helps
