Free Training Resources For Windows 2008

In this economy I have $0.00 dollars for certifications. I'm interested in upgrading my MCSE 2003 to Windows 2008. My company has no plans to upgrade to Windows 2008 because they have no money and our training budget is also 0. The new rule is if it is free you can use it. I'm sure I am not the only one going through this and I know the best way to face a souring economy is to upgrade your skills. As a loyal Microsoft engineer I am asking what training resources can Microsoft provide at 0 cost or low low cost? Where can I find these resources?

יום חמישי 22 ינואר 2009 22:26מנחה דיון What do you already know about Windows Server 2008? Do you have experience with Windows Server 2008? With a background in Windows Server 2003, it should not be a huge curve for you.
Be careful when you say you have zero dollars for this certification. Lest you forget the $125 per exam fee. :)
Unless you have vouchers that is!

יום שישי 23 ינואר 2009 21:19I have extensive experince with 2003, I have a copy of 2008 and installed it in my home "lab". I actually can get reinbursed for the exam fees. My point is that in this down economy if Microsoft wants us to use and promote 2008 we need as many resources as possible because we can no longer depend on our Corporate and personal budgets to pay for the training.

Perhaps I am not understand fully what you are requesting. Are you asking that Microsoft provide everyone with hardships free training on their platforms? How? They already provide an abundance of resources for a majority of their platforms for free. Listed below are just a few that will keep you busy for a while! :-) And I would question the company if they are will to spring for exams at $125 a pop but cannot purchase a training kit for $69.99 retail. Or better yet, purchase a complete online library of resources kits, training kits and inside out series for $249 a year!

Outside of the resources Michael has provided (which are very good, BTW), you're looking at two options:
1. Upgrade from MCSE 2003 to MCITP Server 2008 Server Administrator - two exams - 70-646 and 70-649
2. Upgrade from MCSE 2003 to MCITP Server 2008 Enterprise Administrator - three exams - 70-620 or 70-624 (Vista), 70-647 and 70-649
Either way, you are looking at a capital outlay for at least the books and tests. FWIW, 70-620 is a relatively easy exam (doesn't mean you don't have to study, though).
As far as resources go, the MS Press books are quite adequate, and include a CD that has the MeasureUp exams on them. CBT Nuggets does have a video series for the 70-649 exam (http://www.cbtnuggets.com/webapp/product?id=462).
