  • Alright so to validate windows

I went and bought the required stuff online 2 weeks ago, and after that i did the validation?

and then today, the discs came in the mail, and my dad tried installing it...but now, all that happens is, after the log on screen the message saying :
"This copy of windows must be activated with microsoft before you can log in, do you want to activate windows now?"
with the Yes or No options, obviously clicking No sent me to the logon screen again, but after pressing yes, nothing happens, cept for the error sound occuring

and its just the wallpaper at this point too, no startbar , no icons, etc

Ive confirmed that the computer IS connected to the internet as well

    Please help
    Thank-you

  • Hello tblaze,

Looks like the reinstallation done today damaged some critical files.

Backup and offload data, then do a clean installation.  http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/cleanxpinstall.html

  • Hello tblaze,

Although limited in overall effectiveness, you can copy data after starting the computer into the Windows Recovery Console.

Starting the computer from an offline Operating System is a much more practical way to backup data to flash drives or external hard disk drives from a system that won't start on its own.  Do a web search for "BartPE" and "the Ultimate Boot CD" as two examples of offline Operating Systems.

If you need more detail on those techniques, best to visit a general Windows help forum or do some specific web searches.
