    So I bought a used laptop from a colleague, an IBM t41.  Brought it home, tried to run windows update and its telling me im not using a genuine version of windows.  Ive tried the activation process using the Product key printed on the bottom of my machine, its saying the key isn't valid.  How can I (i dont have the restore discs/partition) activate my windows product with the OEM key thats printed on my machine?

    Whats the validation failure message you are recieving?

     

    We are working on a tool that will allow you to change your current Product Key to match your COA, but it is still under development with no public release schedule yet. This will allow you to change to your COA without a format.
