Project Web Access 2003 - Entering % Complete vs. Hours Worked

Hi, I had a question relating to Project Web Access 2003 timesheet entry. In the past all of the projects that our team has worked on have always focused on entering hours worked and that is how the Project Web Access timesheet was arranged. However, recently I have a project that they want updates made in % Complete only, not hours. But it seems like this doesn't give me that option in PWA 2003 unless I change the method of timesheet entry for all projects on the server. Is this the case that all projects must match the same method of entry on timesheets?
If so, it would appear since the majority of my projects go by hours worked that I will have to keep this method and tell the % Complete project resources that they will have to estimate their % Complete by entering hours worked, right? Thanks in advance for any guidance.

Hi Colleen,
I remember there is an option in Project Professional 2003. Tools -> Options -> Collaborate
You have the option to select specify method of progress reporting (Percent of work completed, Actual Work done per day , Hours of work done per period) or Default tracking method defined in PWA. After you select this option, Project plan need to be republish.
Please remember, In PWA admin section, you should not select forced tracking method option.
Thanks

Colleen --It is possible to use a different method of tracking progress for that one project. However, before you can choose the % of Work Complete method of tracking for that project, your Project Server administrator must make sure that he/she has not locked down the default method of tracking progress in Project Server 2003. To do this, the administrator should log into PWA, click Admin - Customize Project Web Access, and then select the Allow Project Managers to Change the Default Method of Reporting Progress... option.Once this is done, the PM in question can open the enterprise project and click Tools - Customize - Published Fields. In the Customize Published Fields dialog, he/she can select the Percent of Work Complete method of tracking and then click the OK button. He/she will need to publish the latest schedule changes using Collaborate - Publish - All Information (or maybe it is Collaborate - Publish - Republish Assignments; try both of these just in case). Keep in mind that this change will only affect UNSTARTED tasks in the project in question, however. It has been a LONG TIME since I have worked with Project Server 2003 and answered questions about this tool. Thanks for reminding me of my formative past! Hope this helps.Dale A. Howard [MVP]
