How to Save a 2003 MPP to a 2010 server?

Hi -
This may seem stupid but My Customer has less than 30 projects in thier 2003 server. Instead of doing a migration to 2007 server and then to 2010 server we just want to save the projects as MPP with 2003. Then we want to open the projects with 2010 Pro and save the project to the server. Everything seems to work until we click on the project. We get "Unable to open project, no valid Project Detail Page could be found for the project" when we try. I think this is because the save to server is not associating a valid Enterprise Project Type.
My questions: 1) should this work? 2) how do I set the EPT on a project?
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Dave - here's how you fix this:
1. Define at least one EPT (Server Settings - Workflow and Project Detail Pages)
2. For the EPT you want to use as Default, check the 'Use this as the default Enterprise Project Type during Project Creation' box under EPT Settings - Default section.- Válasznak javasolta: Catalin Olteanu 2010. augusztus 5. 21:56

2010. augusztus 25. 14:35the real problem is that the default EPTs do not have any default PDPs assigned and therefore they don't work. The setup documentation and the error say nothing to this effect.

Was this working for new basic project plans within the Project Center Dave? Have you moved the 4 project DBs to a new server and reprovisioned? The PDPs are in the content DB, so you need to move all 5 DBs together.
Hope this helps,
Brian.

Hi Brian, the new basic plans may have worked if the project was built in the web app I can't remember. The problem was simply the ability to open a project in the web app that was published from Project 2010 after it was saved as an MPP from 2003. I did not test 2007 or 2010 MPPs at the time. All I needed to do was to associate a PDP with the Basic Project EPT. In my case it was the Schedule PDP that I chose since it met the customer's needs. The two default EPTs were installed with no PDPs related to them so projects using these EPTs could not be used beyond the Project Center main page.
It only took me 20 minutes once I decided to check to see if the EPTs were setup correctly and that the PDPs were also configured properly. I assumed this would be the case since this was a fresh install on a fresh SharePoint 2010 installation and on fresh hardware. Yep I know... never assume :)

Thanks for the feedback Dave. I haven't seen the default EPTs get dis-associated from the default PDPs before - which is why I asked about the DBs moving. I will keep a look out for this.
Best regards,
Brian.

David,
Have you tried installing a Project Pro 2007 - Trial version and saved the project file as 2007 version and tried opening the 2007 file in Project Pro 2010 and saved as 2010 version?
Sorry, if I'm wrong, but suggest me, will this work for you.
Thanks
