    Fairly new installation.  One Win 7 Pro workstation and one XP Pro wkstn.  Initial backups ran okay.  Not too long after workstation backups of both workstations seem to always fail.

    XP Workstation event log errors show:

    Event Type: Error
    Event Source: Windows Server
    Event Category: Backup
    Event ID: 514
    Date: 4/26/2012
    Time: 9:56:23 AM
    User: N/A
    Computer: HOLLANDER
    Description:
    Backup job 7 on SERVERHOL did not succeed.  Reason: ServerFailure, System.String[]

    I found that the server services show Windows Server Client Computer Backup Service will be stopped. I manually restart.  Afterward I was able to get a manual backup once or twice but then they start failing again.

    I found the backup-xxxxxx.log file on the server contains this error information:
    I cannot find a d:\wssg_src(etc) drive/folder on this machine or client.

    I would appreciate your thoughts, suggestions or help.

    Error code: 0x20
    API name: CreateFile
    File: E:\ServerFolders\Client Computer Backups\Data.4096.12.dat

    Try running Chkdsk /r on the Server drives

    Thanks Phil,

    Interesting results to report.  I ran chkdsk /r on all 3 volumes on this Home Server.  There were no errors reported.  I then have run the workstation backups a couple times and voila - no errors - the backups have completed successfully.

    Go figure.

    These workstation backups have now succeeded many times but I just noticed that there are still some fails.

    Here is an excerpt from the backup log:
