Server maintenance
-
2007. február 23. 12:57ModerátorI know that the WHS performs various maintenance tasks on a regular basis, such as loading updates and defragmenting drives. But does WHS perform a shutdown/restart on a regular basis? I don't see anything in the available documentation that says it does.
I ask because I've installed a server application (ReaderWare client/server) which is documented as having performance issues if left running for long periods of time. If the WHS does a shutdown/restart on a regular basis, I don't need to do anything to account for this. If not, I'll need to set up a scheduled task to restart the service occasionally.
Thanks!

I don't believe it does. Mine's been up for more than a week now. -

Home Server does not restart automatically - and it is good that it doesn't.... if your app requires you might want to think about getting rid of the app (or check for an updated version that resolves the problem). Even though this is no professional server environment I want to keep the downtimes close to zero. -
2007. február 23. 15:16ModerátorThe issue isn't one of leaking memory or anything, it's just that it runs a database behind the scenes, a reorg is required occasionally, and that only happens when the database is closed. And I know that there's no resolution yet. As for getting rid of it, I haven't found anything that comes close to delivering the feature set that ReaderWare does for the price. Especially not the client/server aspect.
I can live with a scheduled task that restarts the service on a weekly basis.
Thanks!
