Global Nav update shows subsites on PWA homepage?

From PWA level Site Settings->Navigation whenever adding a link to the Global Navigation section, the subsites start to appear on the PWA homepage.
This seems to happen regardless of the "Show subsites" checkbox.
Also, once the subsites show up, it doesn't seem to be possible to remove them. We've tried to check/uncheck the "Show subsites" box, but it doesn't seem to apply to the root PWA home page. (<pwaurl>/default.aspx).
Is this a known issue? Or is there a workaround? Any other pages on the root site don't seem to have this issue (they obey the Show subsites setting).
Thanks,
Ryan

Ryan:
For the PWA site collection, you should not make changes to the Quick Launch Navigation using standard SharePoint tools, rather you should customize this from Server Settings page, Look and Feel Section, Quick Launch selection.
You can add tabs, but don't mess with the Quick Launch navigation as you're likely to get unexpected results, as you now know.

09 Maret 2010 15:20Thanks Gary. In this particular case, we're trying to add some global navigation links (the top bar tabs), not the quick launch. I don't think I can post screenshots here, but here's the steps...
-Assume there are some subsites under PWA.
-Go to PWA Site Settings->Navigation
-Under the Navigation Editing and Sorting section add a Link to the Global Navigation section
-When you save you'll see the subsites show up on the Quick Launch.
Note: we'll eventually be doing this programatically so maybe there's a better way to handle it?
Thanks,

Another related question - is it possible to change the setting of "Show menu items from Microsoft SharePoint Foundation" under Server Settings->Look and Feel->Quick Launch programmatically?

I also have the similar problem.
The following are situations and step.
1. create new "survey" list on PWA homepage.
2. And through survey setting->Delete this survey.
3. And current navigation on the side of the PWA Homepage appear all subsites link.
How do I can disable this subsites link on homepage?
PS. I have check the Server Settings page, (Look and Feel Section--> Quick Launch selection) what not display any subsites in list.

I also have the same experience in Project Server 2010. Lots of sites under project server, have disabled the showing of said sites within the top-level site settings (Navigation), and this stops new sites from showing. However existing sites show when you save the Navigation settings.
Then a few more sites get created which do not show on the Quick Launch, I then go in to the Navigation settings again to add another link under Current Navigation and the new sites appear automatically regardless.
This seems like a Project Server bug to me.

I've also experienced this behavior when customizing the Nav bar through server settings.
I believe it is a bug too.

05 Januari 2011 3:56ModeratorI've seen that as well - also in 2007. In 2007, I could sometimes fix itby turning off and then back on the "show SharePoint elements in the QuickLaunch bar" option which shows up in the Project Server Quick Launch bar. That would sometimes work, and sometimes not - and I had to refresh my screento get the change to take.Worse comes to worse, you could always just turn off the SPT elements onthe bar, and then manually add links as required.

I ran into this problem too and think I found a work around. I don't think it is the solution but seems to work. Under Quick Launch in Server settings, uncheck the "Show menu items from Microsoft SharePoint Foundation" option. You may need to then do a page refresh multiple times but that worked to hide the subsites for us. Not sure what one has to do with the other, I agree it seems to be a bug.

This worked for our Project Server 2010 instance. It does require that you close / reopen your browser to see the result.

Is there a way to use audience targeting with Project Server quick launch? I find it pretty limiting without that ability that SharePoint navigation does have.
Thanks,
Mike

I had the same problem. This solution worked for me too - required a few page refreshes. I also agree that it seems to be a bug.
