project server 2010: actual approved work deleted after changes to schedule

Pertanyaan project server 2010: actual approved work deleted after changes to schedule

    Hi,

I have a project plan in which resources submit status and timesheet on. The status manager and timesheet manager approve the submitted hours. The project manager opened the project and added subtasks to one of the tasks that had approved hours on it. After publishing, the already approved actual work has disappeared! Is this a normal behavior? Can I go back to the previous schedule with the previous approved actual work?

    Regards,

I believe that is expected behavior.  By creating subtasks, the PM converted a task to a Summary Task, for which work values will be calculated as the rollups of the work values from the (new) subtasks.

If your Project Server is configured to create multiple archive copies, and if the PM has not saved the project too many times over too many days since the problem occurred, then the administrators should be able to restore one of the archived versions from shortly before the problem started.

    Hi Reid,

Thanks for the info. You have mentioned that Project Server can be configured to create multiple archive copies. How can I do this? I have looked thoroughly for something of this kind but couldn't find a way to achieve it.

    George,

I think what you're looking for is the Administrative Restore functionality: PWA > Server Settings > Database Administration > Administrative Restore.

However, you will be only able to take advantage of this once you have daily scheduled backups to be taken of your data or have triggered a manual backup. You can schedule the backup jobs in PWA > Server Settings > Database Administration > Daily Schedule Backup.

These backups will make daily "snapshots" copies of your projects and store in the Archive database. However, it will only take one copy a day, i.e. you will only be able to restore versions from another day and not a particular version within a day.

    Hope this helps!
