How to Add "Group" resource field to OLAP in PS 2010
-
12 April 2012 17:29The "Group" resource field pulls department information via AD sync. I need to group resources in my BI reports by this field, but cannot seem to find that field in the list of available fields in Portfolio Analyzer cube (which I am using for the report) or other cubes. I would think it would be in the list of dimensions, but can't locate it. Is this in there by another name that I am not recognizing? If not in the OLAP currently, is there a way to get it in there? I didn't see it in the lists of dimensions in any area, nor under measures. I can see it in views, but need to have it in the OLAP so I can use this grouping for reports. Not sure what I am missing to get this where I need it. Anyone else run into this and/or know how resolve?

Rick,
Unfortunately, this is not a field that can be added to OLAP. Probably because this is a free text field and free text resource fields are not available in OLAP Cubes (http://i.msdn.microsoft.com/dynimg/IC159794.gif)
In addition, there is no way to add a lookup table to this.
The good news is that You can however, access this through the "Resources" template under BI Center >> Templates, if you are ok with using that as your data source.

Thanks Prasanna.
Based on your info above, I've created another custom field with the data needed. Shame we have to duplicate and can't use that field, but lesson learned. I'll also look into the resources template to see if it gives me the data I need.
