Windows - This copy of Windows did not pass genuine validation.

    Domanda

  • I am needing some assistance. the past couple of weeks i have been recieving a pop-up window stating YOU MAY BE A VICTIM OF SOFTWARE COUNTERFEITING then it goes onto further state something and i am pharaphrasing that i must validate windows geniune" It then has a link to go to http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/ and validate windows or office. I have run it as validating windows and it get a message stating

This copy of Windows did not pass genuine validation.

Either an unauthorized change was made to your Windows license or a software program installed on this computer is not currently compatible with Windows Vista.

    Recommended Solutions:

    Recommended Solution

    1. Restart the Software Licensing service.
      • Click the Start button, click All Programs, click Accessories, right-click Command Prompt, and then choose Run as administrator. The Command Prompt window opens.
      • In the Command Prompt window, type the command net start slsvc and then press ENTER.
      • When the message "Software Licensing service was started" appears, close Command Prompt window.
      • Validate your copy of Windows again by going to http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/downloads/default.aspx?displaylang=en and clicking Validate Windows.
    2. If Windows validation still fails after restarting the Software Licensing service, then try repairing the corrupted file with Disk Cleanup. The Disk Cleanup process will handle finding the files and prompting to repair them.
      • For the latest information on compatibility issues, visit the Microsoft Genuine Advantage Forum (English Only) or Windows Vista Newsgroups. A solution for known compatibility issues may be available from Microsoft or from the software vendor.
      • If there are no known issues with software already installed on your computer, it may be necessary to remove any recently installed software (including Microsoft updates) in order to resolve the problem. To uninstall programs, open Programs and Features by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking Programs, and then clicking Programs and Features. Select a program, and then click Uninstall.
      • After updating or uninstalling potentially incompatible software, validate Windows again by going to http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/downloads/default.aspx?displaylang=en and clicking Validate Windows

I have run through the all the steps I have been informed to do for example going through all programs, command prompt (running as the administrator) and then typing in the following steps shown below.

    Microsoft Windows [Version 6.0.6001]
Copyright (c) 2006 Microsoft Corporation.  All rights reserved.

    C:\Windows\system32>net start slsvc
The Software Licensing service is starting.
The Software Licensing service could not be started.

    A system error has occurred.

    System error 545 has occurred.

Invalid Object Attributes specified to NtCreatePort or invalid Port Attributes s
    pecified to NtConnectPort

    C:\Windows\system32>

Some problems i have been experiancing is my internet running extremely slow...my dvd burner wont burn files...and several of my programs are not functioning for example the snipping tool, etc...

The only new software i have installed since the problem is the McAfee Security center I downloaded via comcast.net my internet server.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. I should also note i am using windows vista and my computer is a dell dimension E520 desktop.

    Thanks Paul

  • Austin,

In your Microsoft Genuine Advantage Diagnostic Tool (MGADT) report it shows the error code "Online Validation Code: 0x80070426". This means that the Software Licensing Service has stopped. Windows Vista uses this service to check itself and confirm it is Genuine. When the service is stopped, Windows Vista is unable to confirm its own Genuine status and may show Genuine or Non-Genuine. The fact that the Service has stopped is also, most likely, the cause of other issues you may be experiencing (such as not having access to the Control Panel).

Please try the first set of steps and if it does not resolve the issue, move on to the next set.

The first sets of steps are how to set the Software Licensing Service to start at each Windows Vista Start-up.

     1. Click Start button and in the Start Search box type in:  services.msc

    2. Press the Enter key on your keyboard

    3. The Services window should now open

    4. Scroll down to Software Licensing, then right-click on it and select Properties

    5. Under the General tab, click Stop button.

    6. Set the Startup Type to Automatic, and then click Apply

    7. Next, under Service Status, click Start button.

    8. Last, restart your computer.

The second set of steps is the Manual steps to Force Start the Software Licensing Service. Once you type the net start slsvc command and hit Enter, if you receive any error, then, for some reason, Windows Vista is not processing the command correctly and the issue is larger than just a Software Licensing problem. In which case, I would suggest contacting Windows Vista support below: http://support.microsoft.com

If you have access to the Start button:

    1) Click Start button

    2) Type: cmd in the Start Search field

    3) At the top the Start window, you will see cmd.exe

    4) Right Click cmd.exe and select Run as Administrator

    5) Type: net start slsvc

If you do not have access to the Start button:

    1) Click the option that launches an Internet Browser

    2) A Browser will open, type: %windir%\system32 into the address field

    3) Find the file cmd.exe

    4) Right Click on the cmd.exe and select Run as Administrator

    5) Type: net start slsvc

Let us know if this helps. If it doesnt Austin then I would suggest contacting Windows Vista support below: http://support.microsoft.com

  • Good Morning Austin,

Please follow the steps below as it could resolve your issue. If need be, provide us with additional information to determine the cause of this issue.

Make sure you are logged on as an Administrator.

Confirm you are using the most current version of Genuine Advantage by clicking Validate Windows on the website below:

    http://www.microsoft.com/genuine

If the above steps do not resolve your issue, continue below.

Please run the Microsoft Genuine Advantage Diagnostic Test (MGADT) so that I may analyze the results.

By clicking the link below, you will download the MGADT.  Then click the Run button. Then click the Run button again. Then click the Continue button to perform the diagnostic. The Windows tab should show, click the Copy button to paste your report to the clipboard.  Then paste the report into a New Post on this Forum by adding a post in it and pressing Ctrl V (to paste the text). Clicking the OK button will clear the Diagnostic window. Here is the download link:

     http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012

Please tell us about the Certificate of Authenticity (COA) for your copy of Windows Vista.

    1. What edition/version of Windows XP is titled?

    ·         Home Basic

    ·         Home Premium

    ·         Business

    ·         Ultimate

    2. Does it read "OEM Software" or "OEM Product" in black lettering?

    3. Or, does it have the computer manufacturer's name in black lettering?

    4. Please provide the customer scenario you are experiencing.

    5. DO NOT post the Product Key.

Not sure what to look for, see this page to reference your COA:

    http://www.microsoft.com/resources/howtotell/product.aspx?pID=b5c507e5-3522-40de-a2f4-97d82b39cc47&cID=ea710cad-37b0-4975-bcd6-abfee19961df&method=oem&displaylang=en

NOTE: The data collected with the MGADT does NOT contain any information that can personally identify you. The information can be fully reviewed, by you, before being posted.

Thank you for your participation here on the Genuine Advantage forum. We look forward to working with you.

The Disk Cleanup process
      1. will handle finding the files and prompting to repair them.
      2. For the latest information on compatibility issues, visit the Microsoft Genuine Advantage Forum (English Only) or Windows Vista Newsgroups.
4. Please provide the customer scenario you are experiencing.

the past couple of weeks i have been recieving a pop-up window stating YOU MAY BE A VICTIM OF SOFTWARE COUNTERFEITING then it goes onto further state something and i am pharaphrasing that i must validate windows geniune" It then has a link to go to http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/ and validate windows or office.

  • I'm having this same problem, and I also get system error 545 when I try to run slsvc.  And I've tried the suggestions in this thread with no success.  Since it's been a few months since this guy had the problem, perhaps Microsoft has figured out how to fix it?

This is not the first time I've had some problem with Vista thinking I had pirated software; I once had to argue without someone on the phone for 10 minutes to convince them this was the real thing.  I can't imagine anyone buying the next version of Windows considering how this one has turned out.
