    I cannot seem to change my account ID to a personal email address.

    We offer the service of switching your Live IDs on two accounts. That will get your email changed that's associated with your current account. To do that, click the "Site Feedback" link at the bottom of this page and make the request.

    Otherwise, you can create a new Live ID and profile with your personal email address (since you haven't done much with this account).
