Bloccato Reverse Proxy Server

We are in the planning stages of deploying Edge servers.  I am unclear on whether a Reverse Proxy server is madatory.
I have read in the documentation that a HTTP reverse proxy is required to support external user access to meeting content, Address Book files and distribution group expansion.
What If for our testing external user access to meeting content, Address Book files and distribution group expansion is not needed.
Is the Reverse Proxy server needed regardless?  Will the Edge server deployment completely fail without a Reverse Proxy server?

If you want to test external functionailty without those features then you don't need to deploy the reverse proxy.  All other OCS functionailty (IM, presence, audio, conferecing, etc) will work just fine with the that component.

We actually ran our initial OCS deployment with a reverse proxy for a little while and if I needed to get an Address Book update I'd just VPN into the corporate network temporarily to download it.  You can force the download by following this process:

What is considered "meeting content" and what part of that will not work without the proxy?
