Basically i have had my packard bell laptop for 2 years now, i have windows 7 and one day i turned the laptop on and my background had changed and was now black and in the corner it says "Windows 7, Build 7601, this copy of windows is not geniune" i have looked at other threads and seen that one user told another with the same problem to download and run the Genuine Diagnostics tool (MGADiag.exe) i have done that but he never replied so here it is if anyone else can help me with the problem. Thanks.

what version and edition of windows is on your COA? Do not state the product key
Your bios shows a Vista marker.

mercoledì 11 aprile 2012 14:11PostatoreOEM SLP copies of Windows like yours need to link with the SLIC table in the BIOS in order to remain activated. The manufacturer has provided a back up product key for when this fails. Find the COA sticker affixed to the bottom of your computer or in the battery compartment. Copy the product key. Click Start, type "slui.exe 3" and hit Enter. Follow the instructions.

giovedì 12 aprile 2012 01:16I cannot find the COA sticker on the bottom of the laptop, i will have to look tommorow for the box and see if the details are on their, I have had many problems with this laptop and have taken it for repair at my insurers many times, the laptop keeps telling me to resolve the problem and when i press okay, it tells me i have to buy a new copy of windows which costs over £100. Could i possibly reboot the laptop wiping everything off it and starting fresh? Or will the laptop software still show as not genuine?

As I said, check the battery compartment on a laptop.
