I have been using my Technet 64 bit Win 7 on my test computer for some two months when recently it started asking to activate within three days etc.  The software is genuine and there has been no changes to hardware in that time.  I have to keep activating via the internet, the only thing I can think that may have changed is some software updates for the video card.  Ran the genuine tool with the following results:

    Hi Mikebt777,

Your Diagnostic Report shows as Genuine and Activated.  So, to clarify, after you reactivated, does it keep asking to be reactivated?

Or are you asking why it needed to be reactivated in the first place?

Note: in addition to hardware changes, hardware Driver updates can also, sometimes, appear to Windows as if hardware had been changed.  This is because some hardware driver change the hardware ID that Windows uses to identify the hardware.  (If hardware ID changes then, as far as windows is concerned, the hardware changed).

    Thank you,
    Darin MS

To clarify, every three days it requests to be activated.  I get the standard balloon down in the task bar.  I active immediately and all is good for another three days.  It will eventually run out of activations and I'll have to activate by phone which will become a real pain in thre neck.

    Cheers Mike

    Hi Mikebt777,

OK I understand the problem.  Unfortunatly, to analyze what exactly is changing (or what Windows thinks is changing) we'll need to get some log files that can't be posted on the forums so I may need to refer you to email based support.

But first, give the below steps a try. The steps will recreate Windows 7's Licensing Store.  While your Diagnostic Report doesn't indicate a problem with the Licensing Store, these steps have had very good sucess fixing issues where Windows don't want to stay activated.

However, if the below steps do not work, please create a (no cost) support request at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52029

    1) Click Start button.
    2) Type: CMD.exe into the 'Search programs and files' field
    3) Right-Click on CMD.exe and select 'Run as Administrator'
    4) Type: net stop sppsvc   (It may ask you if you are sure, select yes)
Note: the Software Protection servive may not be running, this is ok.
    5) Type: cd %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareProtectionPlatform
    6) Type: rename tokens.dat tokens.bar
    7) Type: cd %windir%\system32
    8) Type: net start sppsvc
    9) Type: slui.exe
    10) After a couple of seconds Windows Activation dialog will appear. You may be asked to re-activate and/or re-enter your product key or Activation may occur automatically.

    Thank you,
    Darin MS

Hi Darin, I just got back from holidays and had the same problem; had to activate on-line before it would let me start using the computer.  Tried you solution above to no avail.  I will open a support request as you have indicated.

    Thanks

    Mike

Danniel Yao, thanks for the support, the diagnostic on the MGA website fixed the issue as two of the DLLs were either corrupted or missing.

    Thanks mike
