Domanda suspect phone calls

    I've been getting phone calls asking me to go on my computer because they suspect 

    i've got some virus' and they will help me to get rid of them.

    How do these people know whats on my computer?

    Are they trying to get into my computer to steal information?

    Recently I, too, have been getting calls asking me to switch on my computer, etc.  I have refused to do so and to avoid further argument have hung up on them. I have complained to OFCOM ( who referred me to the Telephone Preference Service). I dialled 1471 and got the number of the caller - 01234 765093 - which I passed to OFCOM and have emailed my contacts to advise them that the calls could well be malicious. Not much more one can do, but on no account stay in conversation with the callers ( with Asian accents ).
