    I recently loaded Office 2007. I cannot open office files directly from the server.  "Cannot open file" message.  I can copy them to the local machine then open them.  Does anyone know if there is a workaround for this?  I open Office files from the server at work all the time.

    I have had the same problem with no workaround. I have bugged it here. https://connect.microsoft.com/WindowsHomeServer/feedback/ViewFeedback.aspx?FeedbackID=259064 Put your comments in there and we'll see if we can't get this one fixed.

    Thanks Tom.  When I go to this link I get an error message that the content cannot be found or I do not have permission to view it.

    You have to be registered on connect to view those.

    Um I just put files in public and my users folder and have no problem?

    Um...I have files stored in my users folders and are unable to open them unless they get moved to the desktop.

    By registered do you mean signed in?  I am signed in on connect.  Is there a seperate registration process?

    I have no problem with Office 2007 files opening directly from the server either. They work just fine with documents in my personal user folder, i'll test later whether the other folders behave the same way.

    I agree with this statement.  I have no problems with my Office 2007 documents being stored and opened from WHS in the user folders.

    I was signed in and still could not see it.  I could not search the list and find it either.

    Another observation, I can load a .txt file with Word 2007 directly from the server.  I can also create a new file on the server.  I can then close it and it will reload fine.  I still cannot load any exisiting Word or Excel files directly from the server.

    One more observation:  If I copy an existing Word or Excel file to the local system, open in an office program then resave it (without making any other changes), move it back to the server - it will open successfully directly from the server.

    I just tested every combination of moving/opening/creating docx and xlsx files on a server share.  No problems.
