Moving WHS to a new PC(moving hard drives to a different box)
-
giovedì 22 febbraio 2007 21:11I installed WHS on my main PC using 3 hard drives.(120GB on Primary IDE, 120GB & 20GB on PCI IDE controller) I'm happy enough with WHS that I want to reclaim my PC and put it on a spare PC I have laying around.
Can I simply move the 3 hard drives to this spare PC, boot, update drivers, and keep rolling? Do I need to move the controller card, or can I connect the non-boot drives to whichever open IDE connection I wish?

The only way this may work is if the motherboard chipset and cpu are in the same family.
IE:- nforce to nforce chipsets and amd to amd cpu's. Make sense? At least this seems to work with Win XP.
Just my 2 cents, I haven't tried this with Win 2003 server line of software.

You have to normally have almost the same basic hardware.
You should try the "upgrade" install of WHS and see the FAQ about that. It's pretty well explained out there.
