I work for a local council and last year we all went to hot desking and being able to work from home and still hook up to the councils network. Recently I received in my email account at work from mirosoft <hup.uk@digitalriver.com
It claimed that as I worked in a local council I was entitled to use the above program at home for a payment of £8.95. I paid the money.
I have tried to download the program but it stalls at 40% I further see that I have to disable my Firewall and anti- virus software. so far I have not disabled the anti software.
As I am having trougle downloading the program I am a little worried that it may be if fact a sham and they are trying to plant a bug in my computer or just a con.
Could anyone please clarify if this a genuine product offer or not?
Thank for any advice
Goldie

Hello goldie500,
There is such as thing as the Home Use Program (HUP), and the program is administered by Microsoft's online digital distribution partner Digital River, but you need to verify with your organization's IT support staff whether or not the offer is legitimate and whether your organization has decided to participate in the Program.
Here is the UK page for the HUP http://www.microsofthup.com/hupuk/home.aspx?culture=en-GB You'll want to click on the Customer Support link at the bottom.
