    Hey Microsoft,

I noticed that for some strange reason yesterday I was getting logs from our corporate firewall that my pc was trying to login with out me trying. It kept getting a wrong user name and password failure, so I got a little curious and started looking at the processess that are running and found wininit.exe in the list, anyhow after looking up the process online it seems to be a virus.

Why doesnt OneCare see this as a virus?

It may or may not be a virus. Search your computer for wininit.exe. If the only instance found is in the system32 folder it is a legitimate Windows process. If more than one instance is found and it is not in the system32 folder it most likely is a virus.

Okay, did a search and found six instances.

    3 MUI Files

    1 EXE File

    2 Applications

1 is in the system32 foler

    1 is in Windows folder

and the rest are in a winsxs folder

Why isnt there a thread somewhere stating that this is a legit process?

Could this be whats trying to login to our firewall?

I am inclined to believe you are infected but I am not an expert. I suggest contacting support for advice on this issue. You can reach support by using the help link in the One Care console.
