Hi I am new to Project Server and Project Professional 2010. What is the best way to recover the last non-corrupt version of a Project File without affecting the other projects on the server.

When you say plan is corrupt, what is exactly happening to the plan?

well I think some users are complaining about the fact that certain tasks appear to be out of order after they check in the file.

    Hi,

Task ordering is subjective.  Everything in a "schedule" is stored in a database, so it can be sorted in anyway necessary (start date, name, ID etc).  Are you sure the project is corrupt, rather than just being put together and displayed "badly".  Where are the users viewing the tasks?

    Hi Srituraj,

    Your question is;

"What is the best way to recover the last non-corrupt version of a Project File without affecting the other projects on the server?"

You can try restoring the project plan through Administrative Restore machenism by clicking on Server Settings -> Administrative Restore. Select Projects from the drop down and select the name of the Project Plan, Click on Restore.

You will have to open the restored Project Plan through and Project Professional and then you will have to Save and Publish it.

This is very fast and easy process to restore the Administrative copy of Project Plans. You just need to configure Scheduled Administrative Backup or take a manual backup. This option CANNOT be used, if you don't have Administrative Backup.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks Jignesh.. good to see you hear ...this is ritu from dts (calabasas)..you did the rap for us in feb. Really appreciate your help....what other options could you suggest for this...

Actually the real issue was that some users are complaining of the fact that on checking in the files some of their subtasks were showing wrong order , the indentations were getting misaligned...not sure why is this happening for them...any light that you can throw on this piece will be treaty appreciated!!

    thanks!

Okay, in which case I would save the file as XML, and then re-import it.  If everything is okay, save it to the project server, delete the old file, and rename the new to replace the old.  If you have an existing project site, you will need to link the new file to the old project site.

    Hi Ritu,

Good to hear back from you.

One of the possible causes of this behavior would be, mismatch in the Project Client and Project Server Service Pack and CU mismatch.

My suggestion would be to try Save for Sharing piece. Please use Save for Sharing only if you have June CU 2011 or later version of CU installed for the Project Client and on the Project Server.

Steps below can help you in order to use Save for Sharing feature.

    1. Open the project.
    2. From the File menu, click Save & Send.
    3. Click the “Save Project as File” button and from the expanded list, click the “Save For Sharing” button.
    4. From the File menu, click Save & Send.
    5. Click the Save As option.  The project’s file name will already be populated, etc.  Click Save.

    Hope this helps you.

    Regards,

    Jignesh
