Install/uninstall and updating
Issue: You cannot install Live Mesh on a computer running Windows Vista if User Account Control (UAC) is turned off.
Fixed: UAC is no longer required with Live Mesh version 0.9.2815.17 on a computer running Windows Vista SP1.
Issue: You cannot install the Live Mesh software on Windows Server 2008 or Windows Server 2003.
Cause: Live Mesh is supported currently only on Windows Vista and Windows XP SP2 and later.
Issue: Your device still appears in your mesh even after uninstalling the Live Mesh software.
Workaround: Remove the device from your mesh before uninstalling the software. To do this:
1. Sign in to Live Mesh website and click Devices.
2. On the Devices page, click the device you want to remove.
3. Click the Options menu next to the device's name, then click Remove device from Live Mesh.
Issue: The Updating Live Mesh message has been showing for more than 5 minutes and nothing is happening.
Workaround: Make sure that a User Account Control message is not hidden under other windows.
Issue: Live Mesh appears to ‘Update’ itself almost continuously. Every day the customer will see a message in the System Tray, via the Live Mesh Notifier, that there are ‘Software Updates Available’.
Workaround: This experience is caused by the affected login not being a member of the Administrators group. The solution is to add the affected login to the Administrators group, enabling the installation of updates that are waiting in the update queue. Please see this thread for more details.
Live Mesh folders and folder synchronizationIssue: Live Mesh is not installed or is installed partially and the customer sees a dialogue stating that Live Mesh cannot install because it is already installed. Customer is not able to uninstall Live Mesh.
Cause: This experience is typically caused by an interruption in the normal installation process leaving the Registry in a state where certain entries are not removed or added properly.
Possible Workarounds: The Live Mesh installer, LiveMesh.exe, can be used with switches from a command line to install, uninstall, or repair Live Mesh. Note: sometimes you may need to repair the Live Mesh installation before uninstalling it.
Using LiveMesh.exe switches
1. Download the LiveMesh.exe installer
2. Navigate to http://www.mesh.com/ and log in using your Live ID
3. Click on the Devices tab
4. Select Add Device
5. Select your platform choice then click Install
6. Pick the option to Save (remember this location)
If you are installing on Vista, you will need to run these switches from an Elevated Command Prompt.
1. Click on Start
2. Select All Programs
3. Select Accessories
4. Click on Command Prompt (Please note: if you are installing on a Windows Vista computer, you will need to right-click and select Run
as administrator)
5. Once you are in your Command Window navigate to the location that you saved the LiveMesh.exe installer and type one of the following:
LiveMesh.exe /repair (assumes the product was already installed or needs to be repaired)
LiveMesh.exe /uninstall (removes the product)
LiveMesh.exe (no switch, installs the product)If installing/uninstalling from a Command Prompt does not work, you may need to manually remove the Live Mesh Registry entries.
Manually editing the Registry
1. Click Start
2. Click Run
3. Type Regedit and hit Enter (if you are on Vista you will need to agree to a UAC prompt)
4. In the Registry Editor remove the following Registry entries:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Installer\Products\9D1E4BCD781B45B479E1418784C5A935
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\UserData\<YOURSID>\Products
\9D1E4BCD781B45B479E1418784C5A935 (NOTE: <YOURSID> value will be unique to you.)Issue: Deleting a file from a Live Mesh folder on your computer deletes the file from all other devices in your mesh (including your Live Desktop) and from all members’ devices.
Workaround: If you accidentally delete a file from a folder that’s being synchronized with any of your devices, you can recover it from the Recycle Bin on your device. Keep backups of any files you don’t want accidentally deleted by other members or that you only have on your Live Desktop.
Issue: You cannot delete a subfolder in a Live Mesh folder.
Workaround: First delete all the files in the subfolder, then you can delete the subfolder from your mesh.
Issue: I moved a Live Mesh folder to a new location (or renamed a Live Mesh folder) and now it's no longer synchronizing.
Workaround: Go to the Live Mesh notifier and click Manage folders; in the Explorer window that opens, right-click on the folder that you want to synchronize again and select Sync with this device...; in the Synchronize folder dialog box you can click Browse and select the new location of the folder.
Issue: After setting a Live Mesh folder to never sync with my device the shortcut on the desktop disappears, but then it reappears again later (e.g., after I restart the computer).
Cause: Currently the behavior is expected. If you would like it changed, please add a request to our Suggestions sticky.
Issue: If you have two or more different Live Mesh accounts on the same computer that are also synchronizing the same folder, you will notice extremely high CPU usage, which can make your computer run slower.Workaround: Do not synchronize the same folder for more than one Live Mesh account on the same device.
Issue: Files set to sync peer-to-peer (P2P) aren’t syncing with my Mac.
Cause: P2P sync is not currently available with Live Mesh for Mac, though it may be added as a feature in future releases.
Issue: My Live Mesh news shows that my Microsoft Office Word document has been changed, even though I never clicked Save.
Cause: The first time an Office Word document is opened from a Live Mesh folder with Digital Rights Management (DRM) turned on, Office Word saves the file even though you didn’t. A news item will appear although no action was taken.
Issue: After updating, the Live Mesh bar no longer appears when I open my Live Mesh folders in Windows Explorer.
Cause: Minimized is now the default state for the Live Mesh bar, but it will also remember its previous state for each folder.
Issue: If you remove a device from your mesh, exit the Live Mesh software, and then add that device again, the Live Mesh folders on that device will not sync.
Workaround: After you exit the Live Mesh software, uninstall the software before you re-add the device.
Issue: Are there types of files that I cannot share or synchronize?
Answer: Yes.
You cannot synchronize or share the following with Live Mesh:

-Files containing obscene or copyrighted material. Copying or sharing unauthorized materials, including materials that you did not create or you do not have the rights necessary for use, is a violation of the Windows Live terms of use. See the Microsoft Copyright Notice and FAQ.
-Files whose names begin with a tilde (~)
-desktop.ini
-thumbs.db
-Hidden files
-Windows Systems folders
-Your Desktop directory folder (for example, C:\users\[myusername]\Desktop on Windows Vista or C:\Documents and Settings\[myusername]\Desktop on Windows XP)
-Files and folders stored on removable media (such as an external hard drive, flash drive, or USB drive)

- I have the issue below and have tried this fix unsuccessfully. I'm running 32 bit Vista. Any other ideas?
Issue: One or more of the devices in your mesh is showing as unavailable for remote access.
Workaround: Follow the steps below to fix the Live Mesh Remote Desktop issue.1. Right-click on the notifier icon in the notification area of the taskbar and select Exit.
2. Open the Start menu and select All Programs.
3. Click Live Mesh.
4. Restart your computer (or open the Command Prompt and type 'net stop wlcrasvc & net start wlcrasvc').
5. If this does not work, try deleting the following file from your device and restart the machine again:
On Windows XP:
C:\Documents and Settings\LocalService\Application Data\Microsoft\IdentityCRL\production\ppcrlconfig.dll
On Windows Vista:
C:\Windows\System32\config\systemprofile\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\IdentityCRL\production\ppcrlconfig.dll - Ben [Live Mesh] said:

Another workaround would be to rename the folder back to its original name. This brings up a new problem:
After I renamed the folder (thus breaking the sync connection) I created a new folder, and named it like the previously meshed folder. As a result Mesh started to sync with the new folder, but incomplete.

I was able to install the latest version on Server 2008 x32 without issue and connect to it just fine.

I had to change "Disable Windows Installer" group policy setting to "Disable" (default on Windows Server SKUs is "For non-managed apps only"). The policy is placed in "Computer Configuration/Administration Templates/Windows Components/Windows Installed". - I've told my folder to synchronize with one of my devices, a Windows 7 computer, and the folder just doesn't appear
I try creating the folder on the computer and adding it to live mesh, in hope that a 'This folder already exists' will popup, and say 'do you want to synchronize it with the current one?'
instead it just makes a new folder called exactly the same.

I thought that the idea of the remote access was to be able to connect from any computer. Usually if I want to try to connect remotely to my home computer outside my house I'm not the administrator.- When installing Live Mesh you will be unable to install Mesh if your proxy is set to Auto Config URL; To fix manually imput the proxy server into IE to complete the install.
- I had a computer crash. When the new pc was up, I synced the same folder again. Live Mesh asked to sync it with the same named folder on Live Desktop. I said yes, but it took the older files from Live Desktop and overwrote the newer files on my hard dive. I had a backup luckily, but this is why I stopped using Carbonite. Is this a bug? Shouldn't the date override everything else?
I installed and used Mesh client on Windows Server 2003 R2 for a while and it worked fine. But suddenly it stopped working and hangs while Starting... I can't see a technical reason why Mesh shouldn't be supported on Server 2003 or 2008 ....Issue : You cannot install the Live Mesh software on Windows Server 2008 or Windows Server 2003 .

I'm a new one over here and must say I bumped into something that I was looking for. I already went to download it but so far I did not install it yet. Why not, you may ask if you are so keen on the software lol. Well, I have a problem (maybe very small, but who knows very big)cause the account I want to use on my pc is logged as an administrater!

So before doing stupid things I am wondering if someone over on this place can help me to solve this problem. It is possible (and I think so, but who am I) to run with the User Account on but I guess it is not quit as safe. Or even maybe the people who made it work like this now made sure it isn't posibble no more.

You must be logged into Windows with a user account that has administrator privileges to install Live Mesh and you should also have UAC turned on/enabled to install the enhancements for Remote Desktop.
As for running the PC after install as an admin, that's fine. It is less secure than running as a User without admin privileges, but it works fine. It is more of an issue in XP, since XP does not have the added security of Vista in the form of UAC.

- I am running Live Mesh on 32 bit Windows XP. I also have the computer connected to a Windows Home Server. Before the installation of Live Mesh, I was able to connect to the computer through the Remote Access feature of the server and directly using Remote Desktop Connection on other computers. Now, I'm unable to connect through either method. I am able to connect with Live Mesh though. The other two methods don't work regardless of whether I'm on the same LAN. The WHS indicates that the computer has a disabled connection.
It looks like Live Mesh has disabled all other means of access. Is there any way to reenable these? I'm not sure whether this is intended as a feature or whether it is a glitch.

- Live Mesh does not disable any other remote access method. I actually use Remote Desktop through WHS and Remote Desktop from Windows along with Live Mesh with no problems. Check your System properties for "allow remote connections" on the PC having the problem (right click My Computer, Properties, Remote). Also check to make sure that any 3rd party firewall that you are running is allowing Remote Desktop, which is what WHS and Remote Desktop in Windows use. Live Mesh remote desktop skirts the firewalls and NAT.

And the mesh continiusly uploading, even I did not connected to the device and not even syncronizing.
Dimi - Another issue come when you delete a folder in a desktop and the remote try locating... lots of files don't know where to be located and you have to select the action for each one at the time... so 100000000 files.. 1000000000 decisions! :S over Windows Vista SP2... and there is not a keyboard combination either to delete or move the file... so clicking is sooooooooooooooo annoying!
