Ice says photosynth not installed

모든 응답

  • Did you try installing it? The not installed message should provide a link for installing the photosynth upload client.

  • Ok i will try again, Photosynth is installed, I have tried reinstalling it several times with no problems. I have removrd both ICE and Photosynth and reinstalled together. I still get the same thing saying photosynth not installed I click the button and i get a page asking me to creat photo synth on the website. What do I need to do to get this to work? Is it my firewall or antivirus?

  • Same here, ICE keeps asking to install that Photosynth that I already installed.

    Installation steps?

    ICE first then Photosynth. Plain and simple ..

    Where ICE look for Photosynth path???

    -- update --

    after looking at ICE codes.. Something is preventing this KEY in registry to open even if in Administrator mode/user

    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Photosynth.CollectionBuilder

    source:

    // ICE.PhotosynthInterop.PhotosynthHelper
    public static bool IsPhotosynthInstalled
    {
        get
        {
            return PhotosynthHelper.PhotosynthCollectionBuilderType !null;
        }
    }

    // ICE.PhotosynthInterop.PhotosynthHelper
    private static Type PhotosynthCollectionBuilderType
    {
        get
        {
            return Type.GetTypeFromProgID("Photosynth.CollectionBuilder");
        }
    }

  • Thanks for investigating, Jayson...  So far, Matt and I have not been able to reproduce the problem you're seeing, but let's see if your hints can lead us to a solution.  It sounds like ICE is working properly, but the Photosynth installer is not completing all steps of the installation on some machines.

    First, some questions for wiserg and Jayson and anyone else who is getting the "Photosynth is not installed" message from ICE, despite having Photosynth installed:

    1. What operating system are you running (Windows XP, Windows Vista, or Windows 7)?
    2. Is it the 32-bit or the 64-bit version of the operating system?
    3. Did you install ICE from the Microsoft Research web site, or from somewhere else?
    4. When installing ICE, did you choose to install for "Everyone" (requires clicking) or "Just me" (the default)?
    5. Did you install Photosynth by clicking "Yes" when ICE asked if you want to install it?  Or did you get it from the Photosynth web site, or from somewhere else?
    6. What kind of anti-virus software are you running?

    Thanks in advance for any answers you can provide -- answers to these questions should help us narrow down the problem!

    Hi Eric, Here are the answeres:

    1. What operating system are you running (Windows XP, Windows Vista, or Windows 7)?
    2. Is it the 32-bit or the 64-bit version of the operating system?
      Windows 7 32-bit version
    3. Did you install ICE from the Microsoft Research web site, or from somewhere else?
      I got the installer directly from Microsoft Research web site.
    4. When installing ICE, did you choose to install for "Everyone" (requires clicking) or "Just me" (the default)?
      ICE  was installed in "Just Me"
      I have "Administrator" account enabled and also using it.
    5. Did you install Photosynth by clicking "Yes" when ICE asked if you want to install it?  Or did you get it from the Photosynth web site, or from somewhere else?
      I had the Photosynth installed first, then I got interested on Panorama feature so I installed ICE. Publishing didn't work after that so I had reinstall Photosynth (2 tries: Repair and Uninstall). Then the two tries failed, so I tried downloading again using ICE download confirmation dialog
    6. What kind of anti-virus software are you running?
      I have no anti-virus installed and I am sure my PC has no virus or security protection softwares besides Firewall. I use ZoneAlarm Free Firewall. Windows Defender is also disabled.

    I have solved the problem. If you're interested how I did it; you can check my post here. Please read it thorough.
    ICE requires Photosynth to be installed BUT! Let's talk about codes -- SOLVED!!!

  • Thanks for those answers -- they eliminate some possibilities.  wiserg, if you have not yet applied the fix suggested by Jayson, could you please help us investigate further by following these steps?

    1. Open the Start menu and type "regedit" followed by the Enter key.  Click "yes" when asked if you want to allow the program to make changes.
    2. Within regedit, navigate to Computer\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Photosynth.CollectionBuilder (assuming that folder exists).
    3. Right-click on the Photosynth.CollectionBuilder folder and choose "Export".  Choose a location and filename to save the exported registry key -- for example, "photosynth.reg" on your desktop.
    4. Close the regedit application.
    5. On your desktop, rename the file from "photosynth.reg" to "photosynth.txt" so it can be emailed safely.
    6. Send the file to us at hdview@microsoft.com, or let us know if you encountered any errors along the way.

    Thanks!

  • Another user has encountered this problem, and together we have worked out a potential solution.

    Here are the steps to follow if ICE says that Photosynth is not installed, even though it is installed:

    1. Save the following text file on your machine as "C:\FixPhotosynthPermissions.txt": http://research.microsoft.com/en-us/um/redmond/groups/ivm/ice/FixPhotosynthPermissions.txt
    2. Launch a command prompt with elevated permissions as follows:
      1. Click on "Start".
      2. Type "cmd" but don't press enter.
      3. Right-click on "cmd.exe" and select "Run as administrator".
      4. Click "yes" when asked if you want to allow this program to make changes to your computer.
    3. In the command prompt window, type "regini.exe C:\FixPhotosynthPermissions.txt" (without the quotes), followed by the enter key.  This command should run without producing any output.  If it succeeds, it will change the permissions of three registry entries, enabling ICE to launch Photosynth.
    4. You may now delete "C:\FixPhotosynthPermissions.txt" as it is no longer needed.

    After following these steps, ICE should be able to publish panoramas to Photosynth.  I hope this helps!
