Hi All,
I have a CRM 2011 VM download and i want to install it can any one say me the process and steps to install it in Virtual Box or VM Ware Server.
I have tried it in virtual box with the follwing steps
1. New
2. Add existing harddisk
I have selected the VHD file which i have extracted through the VM and when startup it is showing me some error like "Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause".
Is it possible to install the same in VM ware Server.
Regards,
Sai Krishna N.

Hi Sai,
Have a look at Leon Tribe (MVP) blog, it gives you detail instructions to install crm2011 vpc onto a VirtualBox environment.

I recommend you to use Hyper-V for Microsoft downloaded VM's.
If you are installing Hyper-V in Windows Server 2008, please find the below link for installation and config procedure.

If you are installing Hyper-V in windows 7 machine, please find the below link for installation and configuration.

I just create my own in Virtualbox. If you have MSDN or something to that effect is easy.
1. install windows server 2008 r2
2. promote server to domain controller
3. install sql server 2008 r2
4. install CRM

I remember there were some unusual minor tweaks I had to make to the VM Settings when using the partner VHD...unfortunately I cannot remember exactly what they were. I believe it had to do with changing the storage type.
If you are not looking to demo the partner/client portals or SharePoint sites on the MSFT pre-built, then I agree with Jamie...building it from scratch is not too difficult and you will wind up with a better performing VM without all the add-ons.
