Win 7 activation and validation issues with new build
-
2012년 6월 2일 토요일 오후 11:54
Here is my problem. A month and a half ago I started building this new computer. I had it up and running but the motherboard was bad so I sent it away for replacement. I thought I had completed a clean install of Win 7 Pro with an upgrade disk on the SSD but apparently I didn't. I'm recieving the message that the activation period has expired and to activate my windows and the message that this build (7601) isn't a genuine MS product. The only thing I loaded on the SSD is windows so should I just wipe it then install vista and Win 7 again or is there a easier method to fix this problem.
Below is the report from the tool.

The product key in use is the default key windows uses when no key is entered during install.
You will have to change the product key to the one on your proof of license label or if a download from your email. (note: windows must be activated within 30 days of install)
How to change the product key.
click start
right click computer
select properties
scroll to the bottom of the page and select change product key
You may have to activate by phone
How to activate Windows 7 manually (activate by phone)
1) Click Start, and in the Search box type: slui.exe 4
2) Next press the 'ENTER' key
3) Select your 'Country' from the list.
4) Choose the 'Phone Activation' option.
5) Stay on the phone (do not select/press any options) and wait for a person to help you with activation.

Thank you for the recommendations George1009.
I tried the first method you described and received a message that:
The following failure occured while trying to use the product key:
Code: 0xC004F061
Description: The software licensing service determined that this specified product key can only be used for upgrading not for clean installaions.
When I tried the second method I only received the box to enter my product key. I never saw a country list or an option to activate by phone. I am supposed to enter slui.exe 4 right?
Thanks for your time.

2012년 6월 3일 일요일 오전 1:21답변자when you type slui 4 you should get a drop down list to select your country. usually if you do a clean install with an upgrade key the activation rep will activate it for you.

normally windows will allow changing to the upgrade key (it will however give you that notification). The cases I've seen, the normal procedure is to change the key and activate by phone. At this point I'm lost and don't know what to suggest.
an expert from from the U.K. will likely show up in a few hours and maybe he can shed some light on the matter.
you could also try installing Vista and upgrading from there.

Thanks for the help. I am trying not to install vista and then reinstall 7 but if that is my only course of action I guess that's what I'm going to do.
I'll wait awhile and see what the people from the U.K. say.
Thanks again for your time.

(no rest for the wicked - I haven't had my first coffee yet!)You have a couple of options.Upgrade Keys must be used as such - in cases like yours, you can try the double-install method. The problems are:-1) the base install must be 'genuine' when you do the second install.2) The disk used for the install must be at the same or higher SP level as the base install.First check that your install disk includes SP1 - if not, then download the appropriate ISO file and create the disk - use the links from here...Now to make your current install genuine for upgrade purposes, you need to re-arm the grace period .Open an elevated command prompt window, and type the following commandC:Windows\system32\slmgr.vbs /rearmwait for the success message, and rebootThis should make the system genuine again (at least for 30 days)If you want to try inputting your Key again at this point, it's worth a try - you will then need to telephone activate it, assuming it 'takes'.If the Key doesn't 'take', then you'll have to do the upgrade/repair install - making sure that you enter the Key at the appropriate place!
