restore 2tb in 6 hours 7 days

I'm 1 hour into a restore and I'm getting 6 hours 7 days as the likely ETA.
Its possible that the network is slowing things down a bit (but 1.4MBps seems a bit ridiculous)
Is there a way to connect the drive directly to the WHS and do the restore locally? (even usb 2 would be quicker).
BTW
I'm using SyncBack on the client machine using the mapped z drive to copy the files. Now up to 8 days 8 hours. Its WHSv1

Single file restore takes a very long time to restore large volumes of data. Because of the way the data is stored in the backup database, each file has to be assembled from multiple 4k "blocks", which takes time.
There's really no way to speed it up dramatically, I'm afraid. It's not throttled by network performance unless you have a ridiculously slow network, so connecting a disk locally wouldn't help (if it was even possible, which it isn't).

Ho Hum.
OK so is that recovery console thing available in WHSv1? And what would happen if I tried to recover to a volume that didn't have enough room?
(I was thinking I could mamybe start the recovery, then delete a bunch of files form the backup and finish the recovery on a different disk)

In general, it's not possible to restore a disk image to a disk that's smaller than the original. This is because of the way the disk image is stored, and the way that NTFS uses disk space. IN disk image restore mode, you won't even be allowed to make the attempt if Windows Home Server doesn't think it will fit.
If you're using the single file restore mode, your "restore" will fail at the point where you've filled up the target disk, so you could in theory simply delete stuff you don't want while the restore is going on, thus maintaining sufficient free space for the next little bit of the restore.

thanks Ken, I should've said that I was thinking of getting a 3tb drive just to do the restore: I could order it online and get it and do the restore quicker than waiting for the single file restore (currently at 400KBps). Two more questions:
that disk image restore is part of whmv1 isn't it?
The backup is 2.73 TB which is exactly the same size as a formatted 3tb drive. If I find its too big to fit am I able to delete files off the backup to make it fit, or should I be thinking of raid getting a 4tb disk?

No, you can't delete files during the restore, or choose only certain folders during the restore, if you're restoring an image.I'm not on the WHS team, I just post a lot. :)
