Pocket PC 6 OC on ASUS A626 Handheld wireless unavailable message.
I just bought a ASUS A626 PDA from Dell. I fired it up and accessed my wireless home network "Linksys wrt150N" with the security activated. I got on the internet, checked my email, the whole bit. I then set up the sync on my computer. The wireless is now showing unavailable. It shows the wyfi is on. It shows my network, but when I try to access it, is shows unavailable. It was working, but now it's not. I am no computer nerd, but generally can get worked thru most problems, but not this one. HELP.

- Greetings tannacn! Welcome to the Windows Mobile Total Access forums!
This action indicates that you have some kind of program that attempts to secure your device while connected to a USB connection (another network connection). It is not normal for this to happen, but it has been proposed that WiFi be shut-off in exactly the way you describe in order to be more secure.

- Greetings pcutlerut! Welcome to the Windows Mobile Total Access forums! Your issue revolves around whether or not your Asus A626 can properly decode a Wireless "N" signal. If your Router is set to "Mixed Mode", it should allow you to connect at "B" or "G" speeds, but this compatibility is not guaranteed at 100%. You may wish to disable "N" or "Mixed Mode" and set it to "B" to see if this resolves your problem. If so, then you need to discuss the matter fruther with your fiance on how you wish to proceed (she'll want the "N" speed so as to take advantage of her "N" card, and you'll want to connect at the lower "G" or "B" speeds if your unit does not support "N", which will place the two of your in conflict).
I hope this helps prepare you for the conversation to come.

- with my a626 when connected via wi-fi operating normally but then plug usb cable in to unit wifi connection is dropped and I can access files via usb, unsure why widfi turns off automatically when I connect via USB. This may not be your problem but I thought it odd that this occurs. tennacn
Seems it's been awhile since the first post. Any progress? I have had an A626 for about 3 months now and have not had any problems connecting via wifi to typical 802.11g routers/hotspots. However, I just got the Linksys wrt150nv2 router when my fiance got her Dell XPS M1330 with an 802.11n card and my A626 will show "not available" for the SSID. All of our laptops/printers will connect to it but not the A626. The A626 still works fine everywhere else. Intersting that you were able to connect to it initially. I don't know if the USB sync has anything to do with my problems as I've stopped using USB sync ever since Vista SP1 screwed up my WMDC but that's another problem altogether.
It has been awhile since you posted but I am hoping you have some tips. I can connect to wifi but I am unable to browse the internet. How did you setup the connections?
thanks.- Greetings npd136! Welcome to the Windows Mobile Total Access forums!
Your main problem is likely that when you setup ActiveSync, it inserted a Proxy Server setting in your Wireless configuration. Go to Start > Settings > Connections > Connections and select the option "Setup my Proxy Server". When you get to the next page, uncheck the option "This network uses a proxy server.."
That should solve your problem.

If you can connect to WiFi but can't browse the internet, then you may not be connecting properly to the Router. If you can confirm your IP address on your device, please do this. If you have any IP Address other than 169.*.*.*, then you are likely connected correctly (as the Router would not be able to provide you with an IP Address if you weren't able to connect properly).
If you have a good IP Address, then you'll want to sign-in to your Router (probably 192.168.1.1, or whatever your Destination Gateway IP address is) and check it's connection to the Internet. If you have any kind of PPP or PPOE connection type, you may need to simply hit the "Connect" button to resolve your problem.
If you have other problems, please reply back and we'll do what we can to assist you further...
