I can add new users and assign security roles in CRM 2011, but when I try to use the wizard for adding multiple users I receive an error message below.
I will appreciate your help or comments on why this happens.
Environment: Windows XP, Office 2010, CRM 2011 on-premise web client, MS Active Directory.
Regards.

Hi HS2010,
Could you share traces around when this error occurs - server traces and client traces if using Outlook client? At what point in the wizard do you get this error? Do you have any additional security set up on trusted domains such that CRM may not be able to talk to them?
Do you see any error like below in Event Viewer?
"ActiveDirectoryObjectNotFoundException: The specified domain does not exist or cannot be contacted"
If so, can you please check your domain controller for trusts, delete any trusts that might be stale and try again?

Thanks, will try to check the server log trace which I don't have access to and is currently switched off. This error occures after you have selected the business unit and the security roles, you don't get even see a list of users before the error. I don't have access to ADS as it is a GOV domain, so it is not under my control.
I will try to switch the server log trace on first then check the error message details to find out why I am getting this error. I am getting this error on both the web client and outlook client when I try adding multiple users, but no problem when I add users one by one using the active directory user ID.

Could you check in Event Viewer if you see an error like "ActiveDirectoryObjectNotFoundException: The specified domain does not exist or cannot be contacted"?
That will help confirm if it is an issue with trusts.

Thanks Divya. Is the event viewer located on the CRM server or I can access it from the CRM client?

On the CRM server. Should be an information from Windows Error Reporting, something like "The specified domain does not exist or cannot be contacted".
Just had the same problem, and it was due to some misconfiguration of domains trust.
