Windows Not Genuine Error - 0x8004fe21

    Vraag

  • I have a Dell XPS M1330 lasptop - upgraded Vista to Windows 7 Ultimate some time ago (months) then recently started getting the "not Genuine" message. Windows works fine, downloads updates happily but pops up annoying message at regular intervals. The "resolve online" doesn't work (down load software, run it then nothing happens). I re-activated product today and that worked - so Windows is genuine, but still get message. I read in one asscociated thread that there may be an issue with the Dell bios - any ideas ?

  • I have the same problem on a very new ACER PC.

Windows 7 works, I have valid key, the Computer indicates that it is activated.

    Patches are working.

But I get sometimes a pop-up indicating "not genuine Windows".

On validate screen, it also says "not genuine Windows" but it should be good.

What should I do ? Will the PC stop sometime ?

This type of problem usually occurs when a 'Race Condition' occurs during the boot - probably because the Anti-Virus and the Licensing Service are competing for access to the same files.
99% of the time, a reboot fixes the problem, and the notifications will disappear.
    What AV are you using?
Even should the notification become stuck, you will NOT lose access to your data - although you will not be able to get non-critical updates until the problem is solved, you will still have access to all normal functions of your PC.

  • The AV product is AVAST.

The browser screen with the "not Genuine" window came up three times now but everything seems to work, including patches. Although Windows 7 shows as Activated, the Validation test fails. Attached is the MGADiag that show some US dll that are flagged as mismatched.
