Win7 x64 WGA validation, software licensing service refuses to start
-
dinsdag 17 november 2009 22:19Ok, this has got me beat and none of the forum answers I have found have helped me with a solution. I'm cross-posting this here because it seems that there's a few more inhabitants here, including WGA specialists/engineers.
Brand new Win7 Ultimate x64 install, WGA has failed. Software licensing service refuses to start, either via command line. Returns error code of 0x80070427, service has not been started. No change in result if attempting to start via Services MMC.
System restore performed when issue first appeared this morning to take it back to a point where issue wasn't occuring, but no change.
As a consequence, unable to run updates for Microsoft Security Essentials, and IE8 will crash at random. Windows Update will also fail, returning error code of 8024402C - Windows Update encountered an unknown error.
This is basically doing my head in, and from reading technet and other MS forums this isn't an isolated problem. I can't understand how MS could go gold on this product when one of the core technologies necessary to ensure valid paid use of the product fails so badly. Really appreciate any help on this one, usual requsite log files below.
Control Panel\System and Security\System will not display windows activation information. and instead displays following:

Hello thewinchester_au,
I was able to look up the error code (0x80070427) you get when trying to start the Service by command line and it translates to error message "The service process could not connect to the service controller."
Unfortunately, even though the service, itself, is part of Windows 7's Activation and Authentication sub-system, the process for starting and stopping Services is a core Windows system which I don't have very much knowledge or visibility into. The Error Message "The service process could not connect to the service controller." pretty much confirms the issue is occurring outside Activation and Authenication and that the Non-Genuine issue is a side effect of that issue.
The only resorces I can suggest (that you haven't already tried) would be to Window 7 support at http://support.microsoft.com. Your copy of Windows 7 is Retail, so you may still be within the Free Support time period that is provided for retail Windows.
Very sorry I couldn't be more help,

Thank you,
Darin
