Recently, I purchased an Asus laptop with an OEM Vista 64-bit installation. I then ordered their free upgrade to Win 7, but I couldn't wait for it to arrive to try the new OS. So I purchased a student version (2 activations only, no support) of Win 7 Ultimate 64-bit (full edition) and am using this now. However, I have just received the free Asus upgrade by mail: Win 7 64-bit Home Premium (upgrade). All have product keys.

    1. Is it possible to easily downgrade to this lower version of Win 7, the Home Premium upgrade?
    2. Will my Win 7 Ultimate activation be credited back to me? Or will I lose 1 of my 2 activations allowed for that product key?

I know it sounds like I am nitpicking, but, as a college student, every penny counts :)

Hope that made sense. Thank you.

    A. No.  You would have to reformat your hard drive, reinstall Windows Vista, then upgrade to Windows 7 Home Premium.

    A.  All you have to do is "activate by phone" if you are unable to activate Windows 7 Ultimate in the future.

Carey, thank you for the quick answer! I will activate by phone if needed in the future.
