Windows Onecare Virus Protection keeps turning itself off

  However, since OneCare is at end of life and cannot be renewed, I suggest removing OneCare.

  Uninstall OneCare http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/onecaregeneral/thread/732e6371-2e71-479a-8cd6-b189941ed4fb, use the cleanup tool:  http://social.microsoft.com/forums/en-US/onecareinstallandactivate/thread/399071e2-49dc-4767-932d-d261e3965943/, and then download and install the free Microsoft Security essentials for malware protection - http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/resources.aspx 

  If you used OneCare for backups, you'll still be able to restore from old backups if you use the OneCare Restore tool - http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/onecarebackupandrestore/thread/e5d686c8-762b-4b22-bc08-bfb93f911e57, but you'll need to seek an alternative backup solution.

  Did you try the repair tool?

  The error is a fatal exception or access area. Since it is crashing the scan engine, the problem can be corruption in the signature database.

  If the repair tool didn't solve it, your choices are:

  1. Uninstall and reinstall OneCare

  2. Uninstall OneCare per the above and install MSE or other protection.

  3. Contact OneCare support as per the above reply.

  HI

  I have removed the WIndows Onecare and installed the programme you recommended. The computer starts up quicker then suddenly becomes very very slow. when the computer speeds up again the Secuirty on windows tells me that the virus and malware is turned off yet the Essential programme i downloaded is still green. Why? Again i have to turn it on as I did with the windows Onecare.

  Did you run the cleanup utility for OneCare or simply uninstall via Control Panel?

  When i try to remove it via the link and run it it tells me i must be an administrator ot do it. my account as administrator. so what do i do now?

  I have run the clean up tool and had to then remove and reinstall microsoft security. The computer still goes very slow and freezes and the windows security then tells me that the malware and virus is turned off and i then have to turn it on. What should i do now?

  Since you have now removed OneCare and MSE is not behaving properly, you should open a support case with MSE Support.

  Run your system in safe mode:
  
  1. Log out and reboot your machine.
  2. When the machine starts the reboot sequence, press the F8 key repeatedly.
  3. Select Safe Mode with Networking from the resulting menu.
  4. Login. If the malware has changed your password, try logging in as Administrator. By default, Administrator has no password.
  5. The machine will continue booting, but the Windows desktop will look different.
  6. When you're finished doing what you need to do, log out and reboot back into normal mode.
