tune up never finishes

  sometimes it hangs up in defrag, so I will run manual defrags of the disks and can get it to finish, but then it will hang up scanning for virus'
  
  it will finish a regular virus scan just fine though.
  
  I have gone far enough to closing everything  thats basically not vista or one care, disabling the network card, and running a tune up and it still wont finish.
  
  I would just not run them but one care bugs me about it all the dang time
  
  Its been hanging up in the virus scan scanning \\.\d whatever that is supposed to be...?
