Hello all ...
I am trying to install the Windows Client version of WWT on an XP SP3 machine.
Late in the installation I get the following ....
"Error 1001. An exception occured during the Commit phase of the installation. This exception will be ignored and installation will continue. ---> Object reference not set to an instance of an object "
Any ideas anyone?
Thanks

The new Layerscape release uses a newer .NET framework and setup. We have tested it on Vista and Windows 7, but not on XP.
We are currently investigating work-arounds for Windows XP installtiona with the Error 1001 message.

Thanks for the reply Jonathon
Is there anywhere where I can keep on eye on the progress of this?
Many thanks

I ran into this exact same error on a Windows XP machine. I had run all Microsoft updates (including Silverlight), all Adobe ones (AIR, Flash, Shockwave), and double checked all of the general requirements. It still seemed to install the whole dang thing, get stuck on WWT Mars, and then throw this error.
So - problem solution: I did the install up until the error. I went into my Program Files and found the Microsoft Research folder with all the WWT info. I copied and pasted the Microsoft Research folder onto the desktop and then hit "Okay" on the 1001 error. I watched as it deleted all the files in the Microsoft Research folder, then I copied the stuff from the desktop to the main folder.
Would it work? It does! It seems a tad slow at first (that may be because it is checking for updates) but everything appears to be working with only one exception: WWT Mars is not installed.
So - will there be a patch or something? A lot of people still use Windows XP.

We have found the issue was due to the imcompatibility of the LiveID signin assistant 7.X that was included in the setup.
The LiveID Signin Assistant 7.X is not compatible with Windoes XP.
We will be releasing an updated installer the week of 3/12/2010 that will invlude version 6.5 to enable XP clients to sucsessfully install. I will post to the forum when the update is on-line.
The work-arounds mentioned in this thread are not complete fixes since the Live ID signin is required to access the Layerscape cloud components.

Hi
I am having the same problem, each time I tried to download the latest update of MWWT, I get Error 1001. I am using Windows XP and as far as I am aware of I am updated to latest Microsoft software including the .NET.
The problem happens only when I tried to update to the latest version of MWWT, the old version was running fine.
Thanks for your Help

We have update the standard setup to restore support for Windows XP. Build 3.0.72 now has an XP compatible version of the Window Live Signin Assistance required for connecting to the Layerscape Clouds services.
We appologize for the inconvienince.

Hello, I had the same problem recently with a clean install of Win 7 64-bit Home Premium, the latest updates for Win 7 and MS Office 2007, and the latest copy of WWT (3.0.76). The problem did not appear when I unchecked the Excel add-in option.
