Proposed Answer Crm 2011 for Outlook shows wrong icon for ONE user

I have 4 people running CRM for Outlook connected to an on-premise CRM 2011 server. On 3 of the machines, clicking on CONTRACTS shows all the contracts in our system with the correct icon and the correct reading pane information at the bottom of the screen. For the 4th user, it shows a CONTACT icon next to each contract and shows CONTACT info in the reading pane. Double clicking on the contract opens it just fine, and if the user connects using IE9 to the server, it shows everything correctly too. I've uninstalled/reinstalled the CRM for Outlook software but it hasn't made a difference. We are all looking at the same system view (All Contracts). Any ideas? Thanks.

You could trying clearing the local icon cache found at C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\MSCRM\Client\IconCache

I have found that after changing a custom entity icon and republishing, the old onepersisted for ages in the Outlook client but a clearout did the job, forcing it to rebuild the cache next time round.

Hope this helps. Adam Vero, MCT

So if I understand you correctly, you see incorrect icons and reading pane forms in CRM for Outlook. Ask the IT person try the following on the computers in this order. Step 1 should fix it, but if not go to the next step until it's fixed.

    1. Apply this Microsoft Knowledge Base articles to the computer, then restart the computer: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2691482

      "
In the Outlook client on the Activities view, the Preview / reading Pane shows the default Outlook Contact form instead of the CRM Activity form. The rows in the grid view may also show the incorrect icon. "

    2. Clear the local icon cache found at C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\MSCRM\Client\IconCache

    3. Apply this Microsoft Knowledge Base article to the computer, then restart the computer: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2494581

    4. Remove legacy Microsoft Office programs from Control Panel for previous versions of Office (e.g. Interop Assemblies, Compatibility packs, web components), repair the current version of Microsoft Office, then restart the computer. Lastly, reinstall CRM.

    5. Otherwise, reinstall Microsoft Office and Microsoft Dynamics CRM.
