Last week we started a thread about a recently discovered issue that could cause customers to see Live Mesh folders with either an unusually large number of conflicts, or files missing all together. As our recent Announcement and blog post mention, we have started to fix this issue.  Those who have been most severly impacted by this bug have begun to receive e-mail from us with an offer to have us perform an automated clean up tool on our servers to resolve spurious conflicts and retrieve missing files. We will also be posting manual clean up steps very soon for anyone who has a small number of conflicts, or who would simply prefer to fix the problem manually.

For those of you who, in the coming days, receive email confirming that our automated clean up tool has been run on your Live Mesh folders, or for those who choose the manual approach: Please let us know of any instances in which your folders seem to have remained in conflict even after clean up, or if you have still have missing files.

Thank you for your continued patience as we work to resolve this issue.

    Hi Ben

I'm one of the people originally affected by this bug. I spent a ton of time dealing with the conflicts, and all was well.

To help out, I developed a way of reproducing the bug (I had a free weekend, so I could spend lots of time un-conflicting files - fun!).

Since then, on one of my computers I never stop getting unresolvable conflicts in about 10 folders. It's only folders (I have an additional problem with one file that is always conflicted, but that's a different matter).

Each folder says it's been deleted by another user. I go to "delete" (everything is backed up, so I'm doing it with confidence) and it says "failed to resolve conflict".

It does this with each of the folders.

Problem is, as soon as I've gone through all of them, they all come back as file conflicts, with the same message. I've given up now, cos something's clearly wrong.

These folders have continually caused problems since this bug occurred - an update, an uninstall etc. removes these folders to the hidden Mesh folder and raises them as conflicts.

Do you think this is related to the problems you've seen, or have I found a different bug?

I accidentally found my way into the hidden Mesh folder (listed as a recycle bin?) and it had loads of stuff in it. I dunno if I need a cleanup or not, but certainly I can't do an update/uninstall without facing new conflicts. Since repro-ing the bug, I've not had any other problems like it, except this weird folder conflict issue (all the folders are subfolders of one main folder)

    Hi Tony,

It certainly sounds like you've got some folders in the grips of this bug.  The good news is that we can help now. :)  You may be receiving an email shortly concerning our automated clean up tool.  If you don't received an email within the next couple of days, please let me know and (assuming you would like us to run the automated tool on your Live Mesh folders) I will get your Live ID added to the list.

Thanks for all the time you've spent testing this, and for you patience.  I hope we can get everything working for you again very, very soon!

    Ben.

Hi, our group of approximately 12 has been using Live Mesh for about 5 months now.  Up to about a month ago it was working fine.  But now it seems to be losing uploaded files.  In addition it seems to have difficultly downloading graphic files like jped., at times showing up as blank images.  Of note, while one member may be having difficultly looking at graphic files, others may not.  We have installed silverlight but continue to have this issue.   Can you help?

Please submit a bug report with logs from the affected machines as this is not normal behavior, nor would Silverlight be an issue. "losing uploaded files" would seem to indicate that someone in the Mesh may be deleting the file on the local machine, which then replicates to all machines in the Mesh. Display problems with a blank file doesn't seem like a Mesh issue, but a local issue, too. If only a placeholder has been transferred or an update was in progress, the file should not open at all. Check the notifier for "news" to see what action was taken and when relative to both the blank display issue and "missing" files. If a file is deleted from the folder and this replicates through the Mesh, the deleted file goes to the local recycle bin on each machine and can be restored as needed.

How to Submit Bugs and Live Mesh Logs

Note that you may not receive a response to the bug report, though. It will be transferred to the internal system to be assigned to the appropriate development group.
