Vs2010 Connect to Dynamic Crm Server dialog

WIndows 2008 R2 server , Microsoft Dynamic CRM 2011, VS2010
I have a development server which is running dynamic crm. I also have vs2010 installed with all service packs and updates for all software.
I am tring to follow a tuorial in VS which uses the VS 'New Visual Studio Solution template for Dynamic CRM'
One of the sections in setting up the project asks for connection details to 'CRM Discovery CRM'
As the CRM server is hosted on the same Wndows 2008R2 box, I thought that the server name would be the same as if i was conecting through IE.
For security i will use XXXX as domain name HTTPS://CRM.XXXX.com In IE this connects me to the crm site. If I try https://CRM.XXXX.com/XRMDeployment/2011/Deployment.svc i get to the Deployment Service Screen.
So what should I be putting in the CRM Discovery CRM details ?
Dont ask me .. i dont know

Just try CRM.XXXX.com without the https:// or other part of the url. I think it just asks you for the CRM Discovery server.

I get a dialog box up for crm explorer
CRM Discovery Server Name : CRM.XXXX.com
Port : 443
Protocol : HTTPS
I log on using a sys admin user ( can log straight under IE )
This shows my organization Name in the drop down box, so I am presuming that it has logged in ok. The the dialog box closes. I can not view the crm explorer. If I go into the vs project View, CRM Explorer I have to go theough the entire logging in process again, and as soon as i select the orginanization it closes again
Dont ask me .. i dont know
